Liz, it's not a band. It's a collection of folk songs. I suppose you could say it is similar to the dt but its focus is narrower in that it only contains traditional (ie no modern singer songwriter) songs from documented sources.

I can understand the error George Seto got but that was fixed last night and I have since tried downloading and opening the zip files on a variety of browsers and zip extractors on Linux and Windows without problem.

What error messages do you get and where do you get them? Is it a problem with downloading, opening the archive or with the abc itself? Details of the program you use where the errors occur would also be useful.

OK, if you already have the first verse aligned, then you don't need Harmony!

Harmony has an option to take a text file, either supplied by the user, or extracted from the W: lyrics, and let you assign the words to individual notes, one at a time. You just indicate which note you want the next word to apply to.

It will also do the whole thing automatically, but you may have to adjust the result, using the shift words functions. These shift all remaining lyrics (i.e to the right of the current note) one space to the left or right. This is often quicker than assigning words one at a time.

So it is really assisted manual conversion.

Harmony can also actually display multiple aligned verses, but cannot yet create them itself - it has to be there in the input abc file.

All our abc for songs is w: aligned for the first verse and chorus. We add W:s to provide the full lyrics.

While here...

It was mentioned elsewhere that it should be pointed out that this download does not contain all our abc. We operate some things as abc projects instead. These can be downloaded and are found at here. Currently we have all the tunes from Hugill's Shanties of the Seven Seas, a selection of abc conversions from The Gloworms Tune Library and a fraction of Bronson.

Thanks, and sorry about that George. I uploaded new files last night to improve on our alphabetical ordering of the songs (abc uses T: and I ordered by our database alpha sort and a few discrepancies came to light) but deleted the old copies and forgot to rename the new...

Now that we have reached 600+ songs, I've put together 2 files from our song collection in our database for download.

finfoabc.zip contains all our abc entries from the song database.

finfoabcl.zip contains the same but with the complete lyrics added as W:s.

All abcs should work with abcm2ps and abc2midi. I have also loaded the full set into skink. The only ones that are reporting errors there are a handful that use V: but the usage of V: does seem to vary.

Hopefully at least the majority of abcs in the collection will work well for anyone using an abc program that follow the 1.76 draft.
