Subject: RE: Wanted - Reissue Gibson Advanced Jumbo From: dwditty Date: 05 Feb 05 - 01:33 PM I suggest contacting Mandolin Brothers. They will certainly be familiar with internation sales and/or may know someone on your side of the pond. www.mandoweb.com |

Subject: RE: Wanted - Reissue Gibson Advanced Jumbo From: Richard Bridge Date: 05 Feb 05 - 03:39 AM Thanks Cluin. The problem with buying direct from the US is that if you get caught by the customs (and with a thing of this size and value it is very likely that you will get caught) you have to pay UK VAT and a surcharge special to US stuff of certain types. I think they are resepctively 25% surcharge and definitely 17 1/2 VAT. If so the $1899, asuming an exchange rate of 1.899 (nearly but not quite right, used to simplify the sum) becomes GBP 1500, near enough. Actually that is still quite a good price in the UK, so I might well try that. |

Subject: Wanted - Reissue Gibson Advanced Jumbo From: Richard Bridge Date: 04 Feb 05 - 08:15 PM I am trying to help a friend who is keen to try and probably buy a reissue Gibson 1936 Advanced Jumbo (like a D45 but a fraction bigger and with the 25 1/2 inch scale length). Last week about 3 or 4 were turning up on Google as for sale in the UK. This week they seem to have all sold! Can anyone point me in the right direction for one in the UK? Incidentally, said friend is simultaneously trying to sell his two pristine Taylors - a 512CE and a 315CE - both well set up for the driving fingerstyle player by a very very good local guitar tech. Both as new and possibly better in that they are starting to have a little age on the sound, and have been properly set up by a man who knows how to cure the usual Taylor fret rattle without creating an action that is too high. Looking for about two thirds of RRP for both. Those with serious interest, PM me. |
