The thing is, to us, it doesn't matter where the music comes from, it's how it makes us feel. If you want to come and listen, and it makes you feel relaxed and happy-then it will have been a success. We love to hear music from around the world, and it's great when musicians from other countries play their music, but music is there to share with others, wherever it is from and who ever plays it. At a folk club people gather because they love music-some are better than others-some are not very good at all but eac week we see them get better. It is people and music that are important to us, not nationality.

Linda Kelly- Im not a musician, But as you know what is a good English music and i wont know, because im not English and if any English musician play any music i will be ok with it and i will think it is English music, Why because im not English to know if it is bad or good. I have been in this city for 6 years and know most Kurdish people beging from people who were Fighters, cleaners, Taxi Drivers and normal workers, but i didnt see or found any propal Kurdish musicians none of them have a song they all copy which is fine by me but if they play like it is or make it sound at list ok. most of them music was a hoby, when they came to this country they didnt have any thing els to do so they play with music and get money and poblicity from English people.

greg stephens- you should listen to (Zakariya, Hassan Sharif,Jala, Diyar) and many others them are the reall musicians,, who have Records, reputation, loved by people. i can get 30 Kurdish people to support when im singing, for your information i dont know how to sing even in bathroom but i can get people to support and dance with my songs, and you wont notist if it is Rubbish, I dont know what concert it is in Hull at all, because they dont want every body to know about it and the ordiance is maybe selected!

Hand-Pulled Boy-- Im all ways smilling and laughing at, as long as there is people like that who calime that they are musicians.

Kurdish refugee -you don't have to be let in anywhere -you just have to turn up - you would be welcome at any of the folk clubs Nellies Cottingham Live and any of the sessions, at the Sun or Monk's Walk in Beverley - we do not stop anyone coming or joining in.

Proud Kurdish refugee: I am very interested in what you said. Tell us more bout good Kurdish music and bad Kurdish music. I have met a lot of Kurdish musicians in Stoke-on-Trent, and love their music. But I am English, and very ignorant about the music. Tell us who you would think is good, and I will try to listen.
Are you saying I should not come to the Hull concert, because the music wont be good?

There was a fantastic Kurdish band at the recent 'Celtic Connections' Festival in Glasgow. They were one of the 'Danny Award' finalists and put a smile on everyone's faces with their music and dancing. Enjoy!

Thanks for that info JOhn. I wish Stoke-on-Trent council was as culturally aware as Hull, it's very difficult getting any official backing for this kind of thing here.

OOOPs!,its the 23rd, [i'm in an interweb cafe near the university, and the keyboard is weird, [haf to press buttons hard]
just seen Nahro a few minutes ago, he said he will go if hes not doing nowt.

this thing is sponsored by hull city council as part of there cultural awareness thing, there will be loads of singing and music by local refugees, including kurdish, african etc, and free food, there will also be art on show done by refugees, and dancing etc.
its a good chance to learn about different culture etc, try to go if your not doing nowt.

for more info ring hull council on 01482 300 300, or ring the art cebtre [sorry, dont know the number],
ferens art gallery is really easy to find, its right in middle of hull, its the old building next to princes quay shopping centre.

i spoke a few minutes ago, with Nahro and Harri Watts Band [just met them for dinner on newland ave], they are all hoping to go.
