Subject: RE: Rush fans, where art thou? From: Teresa Date: 03 Mar 05 - 12:13 AM Ah, filk is sort of science-fiction folk music. It's not always science-fiction or folk, though. Here's darn near all the filk on the web and a filk radio station. Teresa |

Subject: RE: Rush fans, where art thou? From: LuteMonkey Date: 02 Mar 05 - 11:36 PM I am glad to be among pals. Obviously, the folk thing is common among us, but I am always interested what else lurks in our record collections. I am a lutenist, and apart from doing normal rep, I arrange folk songs. Mostly Child ballads and my own adaptations from Playford tunes. Once in a while, I toss in a Rush tune as a tip-of-the-hat to my youth. It impresses some, annoys others. What are you gonna do? I also do a few Zappa tunes. Davetnova: I think you are refering 'By Tor and the Snowdog' which indeed was a squeeky number from 1975. |

Subject: RE: Rush fans, where art thou? From: Teresa Date: 02 Mar 05 - 09:01 PM GG, I sure hope they don't boot filkers off the site, because I'm an aspiring one, and I'd be in trouble, too. :) I used to be a fan of rush's earlier stuff. Though I admire their adaptability, the later stuff isn't to my taste. favorite album: 2112 Teresa |

Subject: RE: Rush fans, where art thou? From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 02 Mar 05 - 08:33 PM As a classic rocker as well as a folkie, I'll confess my admiration for the Boyz from Toronto. Rush is by far and away my favorite rockers. I've seen 'em every tour since Hold Your Fire, and sometimes twice (about ten times total, twice from floor seats!) Obviously, I'm not ashamed to admit this...after all, if I haven't been voted off Mudcat for being a filker, I won't be for the far lesser sin of being a rocker... 8-) |

Subject: RE: Rush fans, where art thou? From: Azizi Date: 02 Mar 05 - 01:40 PM I also wondered why someone was asking about Rush Limbaugh in the music section of this forum. The fact that Mudcat has members from different countries/cultures is sure expanding our consciousness! |

Subject: RE: Rush fans, where art thou? From: Mooh Date: 02 Mar 05 - 07:18 AM Saw them a bunch of times in the '70s 'cause I was interested in a girl who liked them, and we had free tickets from the booking agency. Best thing about the shows was that Thundermug opened for them a couple of times! Remember Thundermug? I prefer the later discs after Lee's voice dropped a bit and the writing matured, but I can't claim to have listened to them very much. Peace, Mooh. |

Subject: RE: Rush fans, where art thou? From: Alba Date: 02 Mar 05 - 07:07 AM Like Liz I have never been a member of Rush's fan Club. I do sometimes, on occasion, listen to a Track or Two:>) One Song though, that I really like is called "Tears". These are the Lyrics.....I think: All of the seasons and all of the days All of the reasons why I've felt this way So long... So long Then lost in that feeling I looked in your eyes I noticed emotion and that you had cried For me I can see What would touch me deeper... Tears that fall from eyes that only cry? Would it touch you deeper Than tears that fall from eyes that know why? A lifetime of questions, tears on your cheek I tasted the answers and my body was weak For you The truth What would touch me deeper... Tears that fall from eyes that only cry? Would it touch you deeper Than tears that fall from eyes that know why? A Friend of mine does a lovely accoustic version of this and Folks are taken aback when He says it is a Song by Rush......other Folks of course say who???? Best of Wishes LuteMonkey, nowt wrong with diversity in Musical Tastes me thinks...:>) Blessings Jude |

Subject: RE: Rush fans, where art thou? From: GUEST,The Beast of Farlington Date: 02 Mar 05 - 06:02 AM This could be Tom Rush Jennifer Rush Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush But it is in fact about Rush, from Toronto, Canada: Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart. A mighty musical chameleon of a band who have transformed themselves from Heavy Metal, to prog rock to AOR to survive 30 years plus in the business. I am a fan and have seen them a mere four times. A friend of mine is such a fan that he named his son Geddy. Apart from a few bars here and there, in no way could they be rgarded as playing folk! |

Subject: RE: Rush fans, where art thou? From: GUEST Date: 02 Mar 05 - 12:54 AM Nobody else. And your thread title should read, "Rush fans, where are ye?" , or, "Rush fan, where art thou ?". "Art thou" is singular, implying you are addressing one person. |

Subject: Rush fans, where art thou? From: LuteMonkey Date: 01 Mar 05 - 11:25 PM This is the type thing that gets one banned in some places. I am a Rush fan, and have been for years. I thought when I got into the folk thing, it would vanish. But no dice. I have been following Rush since 1974 to the present. Who else? Admit it! |
