Subject: RE: Dan McKinnon St Albans 15th April From: breezy Date: 14 Apr 05 - 03:27 PM I think it would be best to wait until Dan has departed first. Thanks to the ref we have been treated to some of Dan's earlier songs. They were even hearing one outside sainsburys in Harpenden this morning, well I was visiting the library and thought that seeing as I was out I'ld do the bis. Only an hour mind. Work beckoned. Any way, I'm sure that in the grand scheme of things Dan's songs will permeate into our St Albans clubs long after his present visit. the ref is very astute at gleaning songs from the cutting edge of folk. Highly recommended performer locally, He is resident at both the St Albans 'real' Folk clubs, Windward Fridays at the Duke then Spotlight on Sundays at the Legion He also plays with Moses as a Duo 'Moses and the Ref' |
Subject: RE: Dan McKinnon St Albans 15th April From: Moses Date: 14 Apr 05 - 11:51 AM It doesn't usually take you a whole week to learn a song, Ref!! |
Subject: RE: Dan McKinnon St Albans 15th April From: Singing Referee Date: 14 Apr 05 - 09:58 AM Fields of Dreams and Glory rings a bell. Lets' see, buy the CD tomorrow, can I learn it to performance standard by next Friday? |
Subject: RE: Dan McKinnon St Albans 15th April From: GUEST,Killer Date: 14 Apr 05 - 09:09 AM Oops, hit return too early. This is my favourite CD of all time, but I admit I'm perhaps a wee bit biased I love every one the songs, but This Side of the Sod, Angeline, Lovers of Our Time, Fields of Dreams and Glory, and Border River (which is by Archie Fisher, but Dan does a fabulous job. I hope Archie thinks so, too!) are the ones that I hit the 'repeat' button to most often. |

Subject: RE: Dan McKinnon St Albans 15th April From: George Papavgeris Date: 13 Apr 05 - 05:12 PM Listened to the album. Gorgeous stuff. Wandering Days, Kith & Kin, Aesop's Fables, Lovers of Our Time and Fields of Dreams and Glory are my favourites. |

Subject: RE: Dan McKinnon St Albans 15th April From: George Papavgeris Date: 13 Apr 05 - 05:50 AM Dan landed OK, we're back at my place and he's had his first cup of coffee. Subject: RE: Dan McKinnon St Albans 15th April From: breezy Date: 06 Apr 05 - 03:55 PM He hopes to have his new CD, which has been engineered by the Stan Rogers guy. He'll have enough to cover both Herga and St Albans without repeats, probably letchers and Ampthill and Stortfolk too Friday 15th at the Duke in St Albans for the most laid back of all starts to his tour. |

Subject: Dan McKinnon St Albans 15th April From: breezy Date: 05 Apr 05 - 10:08 AM he kicks off his tour at the Windward Club in St Albans, at the Duke of Marlborough "Dan McKinnon's singing and playing have been refined to a high level over the years, and his comfortable stage presence invites the audience into his insightful songs. Although reminiscent of Stan Rogers' powerful voice, Dan has his own style that people immediately warm to. His workshop performances at the Opera House illustrated his ability to smoothly integrate with other musicians on stage. Dan is one of Nova Scotia's musical treasures and his appearances will be warmly appreciated by audiences, no matter what the venue." (Garry Woodcock, President Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival) |
