I know several people who perform it - but don't sing it myself. It's been recorded by a group out of the Ontario Rennaissance faire.

Here is a version of this song titled "Anybody Seen My Kitty?"  (recording  41KB).  It was recorded in 1963-4 in the USA.   This song uses the same tune and similar theme as the "Cockerel / Rhode Island Red Song".

Does anybody know a version of "Anybody Seen My Kitty?"

ANYBODY SEEN MY KITTY?   (recording)

Anybody seen my kitty?
Anybody seen my cat?
She came home with a twist in her tail [?]
So I knew she'd be flurring [?]

Anybody seen my cat?
Down by Finnegan's bluff [?]
Kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty
Anybody seen my cat?

Compare the above song with the commercially recorded song by Ivor Biggun titled "The Cockerel Song" or "The Cocerel Song"  ( recording ).

The "Cockerel Song" seems to have been recorded in 1981 and may be source for the Hash House Harrier version -- but do take the time to see (and listen) to the "Anybody Seen My Kitty" song from 1963-4 below!

Does anyone remember hearing a version of "The Cockerel Song" song earlier than the 1981?

~

THE COCKEREL SONG   (recording)
Originally from the "More Filth! Dirt Cheap" LP by Ivor Biggun

Some folks like a pussy, a budgie or a tit
Some take up with a Spaniel pup
That fills up the house with [woof, woof] shit
Myself now I keep chickens
And I've a favourite one
He's Dick my little cockerel
And I don't know where he's gone

Chorus:

Has anyone seen my cock
My big Rhode Island Red
He's mostly pink with a little bit of blue
And purple on his head
He stands straight up in the morning
And he gives my wife a shock [scream]
Has anybody seen, anybody seen
Anybody, anybody seen my cock

He's a stiff necked little upstart
And I've known him all my life
He's my pride and pleasure
And a torment to my wife
Sometimes he's magnificent
And sometimes small and thin
But he puffs up like a pigeon
When you tickle him under the chin

Chorus

He has two enormous wattles hanging down
They're the best you'll ever find
Madam, you may stroke him if you like
If you feel that way inclined
Be careful he doesn't spit in your eye though

Chorus x 2

Has anybody seen, anybody seen
Anybody, anybody seen his cock

Hello everyone,

If you are easily offended, please STOP READING.   This thread is for mature audiences only.  Please don't post "dreadful song" or "worst song written" as you are not helping.

Below is a traditional bawdy song titled:  "Rhode Island Red"   ( recording  99KB )

              1.  Do you sing this song?
              2.  If yes, when and where did you learn it?
              3.  Would you be willing to sing it for folklore purposes over the phone?

Any help is appreciated.

Sincerely,

John Mehlberg

RHODE ISLAND RED   ( recording  99KB )

Has anyone seen my cock
My big Rhode Island Red
He's mostly pink with a little bit of blue
And purple round his head
He stands right up in the morning
And he gives my wife a shock
Has anybody seen (has anybody seen)
Has anybody seen my cock

Spoken:

He is a right big headed little upstart
The best you've ever seen
He could have gotten gonorrhea
Instead he got gangrene
He should have worn a condom
But the silly sod forgot

Has anybody seen (has anybody seen)
Has anybody seen my cock
My big Rhode Island Red
He's mostly pink with a little bit of blue
And purple round his head
He stands right up in the morning
And he gives my wife a shock
Has anybody seen (has anybody seen)
Has anybody seen my cock

Notes: This is transcribed from the singing of Sudsuckin' Bigfoot and Enter the Gerbil and was recorded on 15 April 2004.
