Mick - I know you've listened to the Brian McNeill produced album, Scots Women ... I've been researching some of those songs, and will begin working on a collection of Scottish Folk songs over the next year. I will be playing a few with Brian this weekend.

My friend, Ed Miller also has considerable expertise in the subject, and I'll play a few with Ed this weekend, too. So I intend to be a student this weekend, as much as a performer!

Regarding my own sets, I've written a couple of immigrant sort-of stories for this festival - a Stonewall Jackson song - a John Brown parody - and a personal family story. I also have a few new (to me) old Scottish Folk songs added to my set lists. In all cases, tieing the Celtic roots to each story.

I have my own tent stage again this year. We are lucky enough to get more shade then the others, and even a bit of breeze (if there is one) since we're at the top of the hill.

It should be a grand weekend. Hop on a plane, you can still make it!!

We may luck out and be a little cooler this year. Yesterday was perfect--cross your fingers for a few more of those days!

I hope you do make it out, SRS.

It's normally hot as hell, but who knows ... we've had our rain for the month, this weekend!

Thanks for the map.

That would be at my campus--in between ferrying my kids to Dallas for the ACON convention, maybe I'll make it over!

Thanks for the reminder. Here's a map to the intersection of Mitchell Street and Davis Street on the west side of campus. Enter the parkng lot on Mitchell street about a half-block west of this intersection. And as is usually the case with these maps, just make the field larger if you need a larger section of Arlington shown in order to find your way to campus.

The Texas Scottish Festival happens next weekend; June 3, 4 and 5, 2005 in Arlington Texas. There will be 60,000 or so folks at this event again this year - over the two and a half days - and the music is grand celebration! I've played this festival for the last 4 or 5 years and it is always a great time. If you're near enough to come on out; PLEASE COME ON OUT!

Alex Beaton, Alisdair Fraser, Ed Miller, Brian McNeill, Brother and lots of fine local folks will be there (take a look for more).

There is more of the on-stage, mixing and make it up as you go sort a playing at this festival then most that I play - and that is a rare treat.

I hope to see a few Mudcatters this weekend .... and please say hello if you make it. My schedule is here.

The festival is held a lovely colleg campus, has lots of room for a full Scottish Games, dog/sheep demos, great vendors and kiddies area.
