I agree with studying and fixing the problem. The "violence begets violence" notion is just plain absurd in this case, unless you can explain to me how it pertains to this case.

There's at least 2 major problems with that solution, gnu. First, as
Mapples points out, violence only begets more violence. And second, killing the killers is but a short-term solution, because it fails to address the underlying social causes of this type of behaviour.

I see people like Karla as symptoms of a social disease. A few people have posted to argue this, claiming that this type of crime has nothing to do with Western culture (ie the commercial exploitation of sex and violence: pornography, the multi-billion dollar sex-trade industry in NA etc). These people claim the problem is solved simply by putting the killers down like rabid dogs.

My question is - if this is true, why are the stats on serial killers so 'culturally specific'???

The serial killer statistics -

The USA has 76% of the worlds serial killers.

Europe in second, has 17%. England has produced 28% of the European total; Germany produces 27%, and France produces 13%.

California leads in the US with the most Serial Homicide cases that have occured. Texas, New York, Illinois, and Florida follow shortly behind.

Maine has the lowest occurence of serial murders - none. Hawaii, Montana, North Dakota, Delaware, and Vermont each have had only one case of a serial murder.

84% of American killers are caucasian.

16% are black.

Men make up at least 90% of the world wide total of serial killers.

65% of victims are female.

89% of victims are white.

44% of all killers start in their twenties.

26% start in their teens.

24% start in their thirties.

Out of all the killers, 86% are heterosexual.

Could it be that these stats are skewed? Or perhaps non-Western countries simply never report horrible crimes like this? Or are these figures convincing evidence that the disease IS primarily a social one directly related to Western culture and manifesting itself through people most vulnerable to faulty and perverse social conditioning?

Well then, she's good for at least three death penalties. And she should beget'n hers.

It's possible that she does repent and regret. There's no way for us to know, we have to take it on trust. If we can't do that, then every felony needs to earn a death penalty.

Useless thread. Doesn't anyone understand that violence begets violence.

Awww... poor dear. Not safe? Gee... there's only about 10,000,000 Canucks who would kill the bitch with their bare hands if they thought they could get away with it. It's a long line... CH is in front, and I am a close second.

the price we 'civilized societies' pay for following "the rule of law" and trying to always be fair and give the benefit of the doubt.

The woman is out, but I hear she doesn't feel safe.

Sympathy for the Devil
(or, a Parody for Karla)

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a con of luck and fame
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole Canada's peace and faith
And I was 'round when your sweet young girls
Tasted terror, shame and pain
Made damn sure Bernardo
Washed his hands and sealed his fate

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

I stuck around St Catherines
When I saw it was a time for a change
Raped some girls, killed my baby sis
I smiled as they screamed in vain
We rode in style
Held a marriage rank
While the country raged
And the bodies stank

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah

I watched with glee
While the powers that be
Fought for months and years
O'er the Deal they made
I shouted out,
Who killed the innocents?
When after all
It was you and me

Let me please introduce myself
I'm a con of luck and fame
And I lay traps for teenagers
Who get killed before they turn sixteen.
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's confusing you
Is just the nature of my game

Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Karma Teale
'cause I'm in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your kids to waste,
um yeah

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
