Some good suggestions--thanks to all.

I think Chris Vallillo is based in Macomb, my old home town.

Art: I live in Woodstock. We just played the Folk Festival last Sunday.

I plan to keep all my Woodstock-area connections (especially our long-standing duo, The Hartland Express (http://www.hartlandexpress.com.) I just wanted to see what was shakin' around my new home near Canton.

How about Central Illinois venues? I'll make my partner drive...

You might want to get in touch with the nature center in Peoria. They have an ongoing concert series Forest Park as well hosting an occasional jam.
I also know of a few groups that get together, just to play mostly old Country and Gospel, in Bloomington-Normal if you're willing to travel that far. PM me if you're interested.

Don't know if yer into Irish Trad - but there's a few players in Champaign-Urbana including old-style boxplayer, Jake, and his wife Mary on the fiddle. You might reach Jake thru the NPR station there.

Lovely people...

There is a nice small concert series in Princeton, IL.

Also, the Putnam County Conservation District has a nice short festival on their big land tract---once a year---just finished.

Springfield has some fine pickers.

Mike Anderson is in Jacksonville, IL.

Dan Keding, storyteller and sometime folksinger, is in Urbana, IL. He could point you to a hundred different places.

There is a good Old-Timey music scene too in the area. Some real fine pickers and singers who are devoted to the rural sounds and stringband music.

Woodstock has a nice festival. Contact Amy Beth there.

BEST OF ALL is the FOX VALLEY FOLKLORE AND STORYTELLING FESTIVAL in Geneva, Illinois----on a beautiful island in the middle of the Fox River---right downtown. That's coming up over Labor Day!!!

That's off the top o' my head. Hope it helps.

Art Thieme

Thanks, Jerry, but that's the area I'm moving from. I was looking for some downstate action.

Hi, C:

Don't know about Peoria, but Rockford had a very active folk scene for many years. I performed at their concert series, and at a folk festival they used to run. I'm not sure if anyothing is going on there, anymore. I still have a phone number for a person who was very active in the folk society who still lives in Rockford. If that's not too far away, or you just want to see if he knows any other areas to check out, I'll give you his phone number. I just don't want to post phone numbers here.

If you're interested, send me a PM and I'll give you the number..

Jerry

I'm moving to Canton. My partner and I will still do gigs, but we'll have to be selective, as we are about to be 3 1/2 hours apart.

What's doin' in Central Illinois?
