Subject: RE: BS: Tech: Firefox Greasemonkey From: Donuel Date: 22 Jul 05 - 01:52 PM For internet explorer users: The most dangerous website I know of regarding system operation trojan horse virus, spyware and general hard drive mayhem is StrangeCosmos.com Even a 2005 Norton firewall is of little protection. Sending a person there by a deceptive link should legally be considered to be assault, vandalism and destruction of private property. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tech: Firefox Greasemonkey From: Bill D Date: 22 Jul 05 - 01:20 PM I remembered being intrigued by the stated possibilities of Greasemonkey...but now I'll watch to see how all those brave testers manage before seriously considering it1 |

Subject: RE: BS: Tech: Firefox Greasemonkey From: JohnInKansas Date: 22 Jul 05 - 01:16 PM I didn't think many people here would be using it, but the link for other updates might be of more general use. The fix, according to the eWeek article, is a "neutered version" of Greasemonkey, pending - probably - a rewrite of the program. John |

Subject: RE: BS: Tech: Firefox Greasemonkey From: mack/misophist Date: 21 Jul 05 - 11:57 PM The fix is available now. This extension is a little too odd for most people here, I suspect. |

Subject: BS: Tech: Firefox Greasemonkey From: JohnInKansas Date: 21 Jul 05 - 10:06 PM A recent news blast headlines this as a "Really BIG thing." Firefox GreaseMonkey Flaw eWeek, July 19, 2005: Greasemonkey Flaw Prompts Critical Uninstall Warning By Ryan Naraine, July 19, 2005 http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1838702,00.asp "The flaw is so serious that developers are warning users to completely uninstall Greasemonkey versions prior to 0.3.5." This flaw reportedly can allow any website you visit to see and copy any file on your computer. No exploits have been known to occur yet, but the "how to do it" has just been published. The guy who wrote the plugin says "Get Rid Of It." I doubt that many are using the Greasemonkey plugin with their Firefox, although the article says it's "popular;" but this does sound rather serious. The page linked above also contains a link where Firefox users can check up on other recent patches. It's probably an unfortunate fact of life on the web that an occasional check is a good idea.
