An Annie Oakley Pass is not some passable cut through the mountains such as the anthropophagously notable Donner Pass. (See 10/23.) Rather, it is a free ticket or pass to a show. Seems to be an association of the punched ticket with one of her bullet-riddled targets. As a matter of fact, this was on today's cross-word puzzle. Most of the books dealing with female warriors, especially transvestite ones, are British & tend to ignore the frontiers-persons of the American West. Belle Starr, Annie Oakley, Wyatt Earp's S.O, Josephine "Sadie" Marcus (1861-12/20/1944) - tough ladies you wouldn't want much to mess with. We made much of them & told the real & tall tales, but we didn't do much with traditional songs about them.
