Subject: RE: Play, Fiddle, Play & Home - need lyrics From: Jo TaylorJo Taylor Date: 13 Jan 99 - 05:43 PM I'm so sorry, the only version I've found so far is INSTRUMENTAL!!!! (phonofiddle & musical saw...) they did sing it sometimes though, I'll keep searching and see if I can get the words from the fellow that used to sing it. Put your email no. here or as a personal message to me in case I lose the thread! |

Subject: RE: Play, Fiddle, Play & Home - need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 09 Jan 99 - 07:48 PM Sure, Mick, sure! Ah, well, you're welcome anytime, anyway! Helen, thank you so much. I called Dad tonight and he was so pleased. He's really impressed with what he's read and ehard about Mudcatters. I wish he could get on-line. At almost 82, he'd skew our averages a little, eh?! Thanks, to you, too, Mike. I will pass your lyrics on, also. By the looks of the chords, it sounds lkie it's the same tune. What a great bunch the Mudcatters are! THANKS! kat |

Subject: Lyr Add: PLAY, FIDDLE, PLAY From: Helen Date: 09 Jan 99 - 06:50 AM Hi again, These lyrics are from a book called Treasury of Waltzes, Albert's Mammoth Folio No.2. Albert Publications. Helen "Play, Fiddle, Play" VERSE Now the Gypsy band, Rest their caravan, Where a hill conceals the Sun. Dusky magic falls, Gypsy music calls, Calls to lovers one by one. BREAK(?) A lover strums his fiddle, While he hums this little song, M-m-m-m This is his song, M-m-m-m. CHORUS Play, fiddle, play, Play my loved one a melody; Sing to my love, While the stars swing above; Play, fiddle, play, Sing my loved one a rhapsody, Play on the strings of her heart. VERSE 2 (or different BREAK?) The campfires are gleaming, As red as the sun, And my heart keeps dreaming, Just dreaming of one; So softly croon, While the moon weaves our two hearts in harmony; Play, fiddle, play to my love. Lyrics by Jack Lawrence, Music by Emery Deutsch & Arthur Altman. |

Subject: Lyr Add: PLAY, FIDDLE, PLAY From: Mike Billo Date: 08 Jan 99 - 07:05 PM There is no verse about "if a gypsy stops the caravan" in the version of "Play, Fiddle Play" that I know, but here's what I've got. PLAY FIDDLE PLAY [Am] Play, fiddle, play. Play my [Dm] loved one a melody. [E7] Sing to my love while the [Am] stars shine above. [Am] Play, fiddle, play. Sing my [Dm] loved one a rhapsody. [E7] Play on the strings of my [Am] heart. BRIDGE The [G] campfires are gleaming as [C] red as the sun, And [B7] my heart keeps dreaming, just [E7] yearning for one. [Am] Croon while the moon weaves our [Dm] two hearts in harmony. [Am] Play, fiddle, [E7] play to my [Am] love. Hope that has helped, Mike

Subject: Play, Fiddle, Play & Home - need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 08 Jan 99 - 11:57 AM Talked to my dad and got more info on his most recent request. Thanks everyone who tried on the thread posted earlier, "More of m'Da's requests". He's looking for two songs from the 1930's: "Home" with lyrics about "when shadows fall and trees whisper day's end" there's also something about a cricket and "sweet dreams will ever take me home. The other one is "Play, Fiddle, PLay" with words of "If a gypsy stops their caravan" also, "play on the strings of her heart." I plan to search some other places, too, but as ever am grateful to ay and all inout. Thanks, Katlaughing |
