Hey thanks for that...Keep Music Live, I say! I'm all for variety and allowing lots of forms of music...Unfortunately, after waiting from 7 o'clock (when we were asked to arrive) until 9.30 with no music AT ALL...we asked, for yet another time, when they were kicking off with the 8 acts....in a minute was the reply, yet again....
At 10pm...we gave up waiting and went on 'stage' to gather up amps etc....then they started introducing acts hastily, no thanks, we said....well actually, the male members of the band were slightly less polite than that...
A marketing ploy to make people buy drinks...It maybe worked that night, but had a knock-on effect as none of those who went with us will ever buy another drink there if they can help it. It was the most apallingly organised competition and used the musicians and singers in a way that was just not on.
The last band competition we went in was great, we had a really good time and came home with a really professionally recorded live dvd of the 5 songs we did and enjoyed meeting some other bands, too.
Chicago Rock did not 'rock' because the tills were clanking too loudly. The organisers should be ashamed. I hope other branches of Chicago Rock were better organised than the Grimsby Branch was (in my opinion only, of course!!!)

I think it is pretty sad, when you have to listen to performers who use backing tapes.

It doesn't matter if you don't win Rockhen, you can at least hold your heads up high and say we did it live.

Do try and make it to the GFF, you would enjoy it Rockhen (and Shoot The Crow).

Just like Gainsborough Folk Club, Market Rasen Folk Club supports live acts.

No backing tapes at Gainsborough Folk Festival, Rockhen. Just real live music played by real live people (yep, we snore and fart with the best of 'em!). :-)

Come and join us - next Friday, Saturday and Sunday! There are singarounds and an open stage so you can even do a few.

I hope you win the competition. Is there any chance of you putting up an MP3, so that folks who live a bit too far away for the bus to get us to the gig can get to hear you? (Some of us live in the US, Canada, Oz and mainland Europe).

Sorry for cheap attempt to grab your attention!
Witness cyber sex live at Chicago Rock, Grimsby on Monday 26th September...well the lead singer of Shoot the Crow's brilliant and original song 'Cyber Sex' actually...it may be the only live and original music of the night if previous heats of the band competition there are anything to go by...so, if you want to keep music live...come along, vote for us and help make a stand against the total disappearance of live music in such competitions. Everyone has a right to do music in the way they wish but I think it is sad if live music suffers as a result of the easier method of using backing tapes. :-(
(Sorry folks who wanted real cyber sex...try another site, maybe? :-)
(Please note I am not knocking those who use backing tapes just saying that they seem to be taking over from live music in these types of venues!
