I managed to annoy the landlord by not letting him in the door whilst a particularly good singer had the floor...... eermmm. well okay, I was door monitor at the time it was my turn to sing, and how did I know it was him trying to force the door open, I was in mid-verse and holding the door shut by leaning against it!! -NOTE:next time bring spare lightbulbs and an axe for the locked fire exit |

Also for all your help in supporting the MudRaffle by bringing prizes & buying tickets. The draw & prizegiving was a bit rushed I'm afraid, I'd kinda lost track of time. We raised £40.50 & I've sent a cheque* off to Bill Sables to forward it on to Max to help with the colossal telephone bills he has every month trying to keep the MudCat running for our pleasure. (* actually I managed to make the cheque out for only £40 before I remembered the 50p, but I've promised to make it up on the next one) So good that Catters are getting into the spirit of the Chocolate tradition. Speciality chocolates aplenty, special mention to MandoTim who brought homemade ginger & sweet chilli covered chocolates & also to MBSLynne with her gin-soaked strawberries & celery. Well done too for ColK having freshly dipped celery created at the Craft Fair!! Lovely to see/hear so many Catters with their songs & tunes, hope it won't be long before we meet agaim. |

Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: Mo the caller Date: 29 Nov 05 - 03:10 PM Yes, a good festival. Only 2 complaints 1. Too much choice, so that there were not many people in the session (last year there were so many we couldn't get in - hmm) 2. So good that we stayed Sun night and had to drive home on Monday in a blizzard - dont let it happen again Malc |

Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: MBSLynne Date: 27 Nov 05 - 06:04 AM There seemed to me to be less people at Bedworth altogether this year...don't know if it was to do with the weather. There were still quite a few at the Mudgather though. I did think the lack of the French Market detracted from the overall atmosphere of the place..I've really enjoyed that in the past. I was also a little disappointed in the session I looked in on in the back bar of the White Swan. Hardly anyone there. Last year it seemed to be packed and loud most of the time. Unfortunately, because I was only there for the day, I missed what sounded like rather a good party on Friday night, and I probably missed some of the other good bits too. Yes George was there. It would be great if Ted would play for us - and I'm really trying hard to get more. I've now got the list of the other sides which will be there, so will try e-mailing them direct. The trouble is that most sane people, when they have been playing for their own side all day, don't want to go and play for a crazy lot like us afterwards. They reckon it's time for tea and crumpets ..... or, maybe, more beer. Any other suggestions from anyone for individuals I could approach - preferably before the festival - would be greatly appreciated. |

Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: Malc Bedworth Date: 13 Nov 05 - 07:23 AM Hi Geoff, People will be let in (wristbands will need to be shown), what the Rugby Club are concerned about (and rightly so I guess) is that if dozens of people move from the town centre to the Rugby Club at pub chucking out time, the yobs will latch on and tag along and this would cause a problem. This is a new venue for us this year and one that we need to nurture for the future so we need to tread carefully - it's taken us 27 years to get a sensible location for campervans and we wouldn't want to loose it at the first hurdle - I'm sure you understand. You may want to get a consensus from the audience in the singaround about moving to the Rugby Club at say just before 11 as they should all be ticket holders who will be able to access the Rugby Club, or it's still not too late to change the finish time for the singaround to 10.30 (that may be the best idea as people could take a leisurely walk to the Rugby Club and be ready in good time for the start of the sing), I'm open to suggestions (as long as they are decent!) As I'm writing this I'm coming to the conclusion that 10.30 end for the pub singaround is the right thing to do. Malc. |
Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: webfolk Date: 12 Nov 05 - 05:43 AM The sing sounds a great idea, but what about those of us who are booked to be elsewhere until after 10.30pm that evening. I dont suppose our session will finish before 11.00 or 11.30 so will we get in? Geoff - Bit on the Side |
Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: Malc Bedworth Date: 12 Nov 05 - 04:03 AM We are having a late sing at the Rugby Club this year on Saturday evening - official finish midnight (but VERY flexible - 2am has been banded about!)- Rugby Club just request that you get there by 10:30 ish as they will not allow access too late so that we don't get any of the local yobs in!. The Rugby Club seems to be a bit of a gem find for us and will certainly figure much more in next years Fest. Are there any more takers out there for stewarding we could do with another half a dozen or so helpers - email stewards@bedworth-festival.info or contact Margaret & Martin direct at martin.bushnell@which.net if you are interested. Malc's said we can run Herbaceous Border at Bedworth (Saturday afternoon and Sunday lunchtime for an hour or so) but so far I haven't managed to kidnap any musicians to play for us. Any offers - or any suggestions of who I could approach? Likely tunes are a) Uncle Bernard's (preferably) or Click Go the Shears b) Lord of the Dance c) Anything suitable for 'border style single stepping' eg Donkey Riding; This Old Man; Rakes of Mallow; the dreaded Speed the Plough .... or a whole host of other tunes. Any instruments welcome, but ideally it would include a melodeon and a drum. Anyone who wants to come along and dance (whether or not they've morris danced before) will be very welcome but we can't do it without musicians. Contact me via this thread or PM me. Please!!! Sue |

Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: Malc Bedworth Date: 22 Oct 05 - 10:52 AM Ello! Continental Market is on Saturday again. Catering in the Civic Hall friday is only until early evening, but if you're happy with "cheap and cheerful" there's always Wetherspoons, just down from the Liberal Club (or the Chinese or the Chippy) Malc. |

More to the point; will there be somewhere to get a meal in Bedduth on a Friday night, when the town appears to be shut? Fine greasy fry up in the covered market on Saturday morning though... Tim from Bit on the Side |
Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: Chris Green Date: 22 Oct 05 - 08:59 AM Anyone know if the delightful French market with its Provencal potatoes of niceness will be in town this year? They'd sold out by the time I got there last year! :( |

Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: Malc Bedworth Date: 20 Oct 05 - 05:49 PM Hi all, just looking through the thread and hope I can give some useful info - TENTS - not really allowed ...... but we've got at least 3 already, the Rugby Club seem OK about it (£4 for the week-end 3pm Friday to 8pm Sunday)but MUST be booked in advance as space is strictly limited CARAVANS & CAMPERVANS - as above almost full, we are going to try and negotiate some further space, but there is a match on on the Saturday and there needs to be somewhere for the players to park (and to play!) CATTERS MEET - still looking at times, but similar timing to last year and the same excellent venue. INDOOR CAMPING - in view of the Rugby Club facility there will be much more space and comfort in the Scout Hut this year. I got in trouble last year when someone asked me what we did when it got full and I said "start another layer" - no sense of humour some people - then again! Keep the thread going and feel free to ask questions, I'll drop in and answer what I can. Cheers Malc. |

Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: GUEST,muppitz@work Date: 13 Oct 05 - 08:38 AM The last discussion with mother said we were going, but if I pass my driving test next Friday I'll be coming with, or without her. Very much doubt we'll do indoor camping, we've had enough bad experiences with that in the past! Ah well, we slept in the car at Banbury, so I'm sure we can put up with it again! muppitz x |

Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: My guru always said Date: 11 Oct 05 - 05:48 PM Thank you GUEST, Observer!! That definitely helps *grin* Fantastic news that Malc is once again serious about chocolate this year, lets hope we manage to remind him in time for the Gather! But of course the tin of Chocolates from Malc at Banbury was Very Welcome |
Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: GUEST,Observer Date: 11 Oct 05 - 04:17 PM This is a quote taken from the Bed'uth Festival October news letter. "Mudcatters Meet After last years great meet we are again hosting a mudcatters session (for those uninitiated a sort of singing and chocolate eating session!) – it's certainly not exclusive to catters. It will take place in the upstairs room of The White Horse Saturday teatime, before the turning on of the Christmas lights ceremony. (Someone better remind me to hand over the tin of choccies this year – then again I really enjoyed eating them the week after the festival last year!)" Hope it helps. |

Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: alanww Date: 11 Oct 05 - 02:54 PM Hello to all the Friends I haven't seen since last weekend at Banbury FF. Missing you already! I will be at Bedworth FF with the Shakespeare Mummers, as last year. We will be mummimg on the Friday evening, presumably during the intervals of the concert(s) and the ceilidh. Then I should be free for the rest of the weekend. The other mummers bores out there will undoubtedly be fascinated to hear that we will probably be performing the version of the Broadway Mummers Play from Worcestershire, which was collected by Miss Antionette Taylor and published in the American Folklore Journal XXII (1909)! I will undoubtedly look in on a singaround or three during the Saturday. So see many of you then. "Dancing and singing, bell ringing!" Alan |
Subject: RE: The mighty Bedworth! Who's going? From: Snuffy Date: 11 Oct 05 - 09:02 AM I remember it being Saturday afternoon, was it about 4pm? After Lynne Heraud & Pat Turner's singaround, and before Brian Rogers' ? |

Was it Saturday afternoon last year? That seems like a good time to me... Hopefully MiLady Morticia will be hosting again & I'd like to organise a MudRaffle if Malc is agreeable, but I'd need o confirm that first, so hang onto your prizes for the moment. BTW, we raised £83 for the MudCat at Banbury last weekend, thanks everyone! |
