Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: black walnut Date: 28 Dec 06 - 03:59 PM Here are a few photos.... of mine from 2006. I invite folks here once again to take a look at Flickr as a way of sharing photos. It's a user-friendly site with a lot of great features. And if I can both figure it out and not get bored with it, well, that's a high recommendation! ~b.w. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: rich-joy Date: 31 Jul 06 - 03:24 AM I posted this on the newer Mudcat Flickr thread, but the thread kinda went awry ... Hi there, I too joined Flickr this year and started loading Folkie Fotos from my past (mainly), here in Australia. I just posted to the "Mudcat Group" too, but my photos can be accessed through my website : http://www.peculiarhand.com (see "ye olde photos" link) I don't get a lot of time, but I will try to get more photos in this year, before the Woodford Work deluge kicks in ... Cheers! R-J |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: wysiwyg Date: 13 Nov 05 - 11:08 PM Just Catter pages w/pix, at Flickr or wherever, is what I am suggesting MIGHT work. You'd want to consult Joe Offer. Catter WEBSITES, there's a thread we don't have.... ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: Celtaddict Date: 13 Nov 05 - 11:05 PM A PermaThread of links to pages on Flickr of traditional music interest would be a good one! Maybe blickies with identification for those who are not regulars, along the lines of "Getaway 2005 photos HERE" and "InOBU page HERE" and such, not unlike the list on the Mudcat Photos page already. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: wysiwyg Date: 13 Nov 05 - 10:54 PM Or maybe a permathread on Flickrers and other photo-stashers among us. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: Celtaddict Date: 13 Nov 05 - 10:37 PM Worth exploring; I know Pene Azul has been hampered by an assortment of factors besides the technical problems of the 'Cat. Maybe an organized links system would be a help. Am I the only one who gets lost on Flickr if I do not have a blicky to a particular page? I have found some fun things but have also pulled my hair trying to re-find things. I joined, but forgot my password (doh) but now Flickr does not recognize either e-mail but says I can't start a new account because my name is in use. Bah. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: wysiwyg Date: 13 Nov 05 - 08:40 PM It might be that Pene Azul would put links to Flickr pix on the Mudcat photo page.... see recent Helkp thread about photos, and Joe's comment. ~S~ |

Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: jacqui.c Date: 13 Nov 05 - 04:02 PM Lorcan set up a Mudcat group for a place for the Getaway photos, initially. I think that it's a great place to put pics until the Mudcat photo facilities are back in action. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: black walnut Date: 13 Nov 05 - 02:37 PM There's a group now at Flickr. Is there another thread started about it, or is this the one we should keep alive to include info about it? The group is called "Mudcat". Original, huh? Don't sue us!!! :-) ~b.w. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: black walnut Date: 17 Oct 05 - 09:27 PM Thanks for the PMs! If there are anymore hiders in the corners, now's your chance to flickr. Otherwise, we'll put this thread to rest for a bit. ~b.w. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: black walnut Date: 14 Oct 05 - 08:19 PM Finally got there Squeak. Geesh. Who woulda thought I could find you under "People". :) ~b.w. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 14 Oct 05 - 07:12 PM I tend to use "Mudcat" as one of my tags on Flickr. If we all did that it'd make it easier for us to find each other over there, even when we use a different name from the one we use on Mudcat. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: black walnut Date: 14 Oct 05 - 11:24 AM Hi Kat! Thanks! Always love hearing from you. Hi Liz! Always love hearing from you too. Couldn't find you over at Flickr...h e l p pleaze? Hi McGrath! You did the same thing I did...you sent people to look at your Sets, not your Homepage. I think that's a minor weakness with Flickr...one's 'homepage' shows the most recent uploads, but not all of the sets, which is really the more 'finished' process - the sets are organized and more presentable to the public. I think of the 'homepage' as my 'work in progress' page. Hi Tony! (I'm sure he's lurking around here somewhere). ~b.w. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 13 Oct 05 - 08:22 PM I think flickr is a tremendous resource. It really comes into its own when there is some big thing happens - natural disasters, bombings etc, but in a way it's even better when it's ordinary stuff, like music events, people and places you see around. And there are some pretty good discussion threads and so forth, if you dig a bit. Even the free service is pretty good, and the full pro subscription is remarkably good value. Here's a link to my sets of pictures on flickr. When I want to use a link to a picture in a thread here, either one of my own, or maybe something from a book, I tend to stick it on flickr, and use that as the link. I'm glad black walnut started this thread - I'd like to see people using flickr as a kind of outpost for Mudcat. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: Liz the Squeak Date: 13 Oct 05 - 03:43 PM Flikr is great. I'm a member under the same name... looks like Jack (Mudcat Jack or Travelling Jack, the 'puppy' who lives with Pixie of Doom and Phot) also has an account judging by his thread (Mudcat Jack gors travelling)..... Subject: RE: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: katlaughing Date: 13 Oct 05 - 02:09 PM That's really kewl, bw! Thanks to you and Tony! I didn't know about Flikr. Neat photos, too! |
Subject: Folk Music Photos on Flickr From: black walnut Date: 13 Oct 05 - 12:03 PM I'd be interested in hearing from other Mudcatters who use Flickr, and perhaps would be willing to share their link here. This could become a thread which evolves into a catalogue of Flikr Folk Music Photos, if we want it to. This is also a thread for people who don't care to join Flickr themselves, but just want find some fine folk music photos. I found out about Flickr from Mudcatter Tony Burns, and I have since discovered that there are a few other Mudcatters out there who are Flickr users as well. Flickr is a very user friendly way to display one's photography. THere is a free form of Flickr (whick allows for a fairly decent but limited number of photos and sets) but the paid version is quite inexpensive and allows a virtually bottomless pit of possibilities. For example, I have 3 sets of photos from The Woods Music and Dance Camp 2005. at http://www.flickr.com/photos/blackwalnut/sets/....which can also be found by clicking on this very friendly Flikr photo phrase. . Have fffun! ~black walnut |
