No news from Bev and Jerry. Have you already arrived to BUE? I would really like to meet you and share a bottle of good Argentinean wine. Or better, get one bottle served for each one.

Un abrazo,
Andrés

Hi, there! I´m so happy to see that some Mudcatters will be visiting us. Thanks Kat for your PM.

The world is so small.. My office is located just on the second floor of the same building of the Kilkenny, the best known Irish pub and restaurant in the Retiro area, Reconquista street. However I´m not a customer because they use to run their amplifiers at top volume. There are many other places where you can enjoy Guinnes in several varieties !

As you may know, I am a classical choir singer who likes to sing spirituals and blues, and knows nothing about celtic music, except enjoying it as a listener, but I´ll try to find good places for Bev and Jerry. Angeles seem to be more in contact with celtic bands.
However I can take you to some places where you could see a real tango orchestra and authentic dancers, as well as native folk music.

(Angeles ! you ruined my exclusivity, now I´m the second Argentinean in the Mudcat - because you are a lady and goes first :) Call me whenever you want 4639-9429 or send me a PM here.

You are coming to one of the most active musical cities in the world. Prepare your ears, and prepare your teeth for the finest beef too.

Please PM me or post here the dates of arrival and leaving, and some idea of how you plan your activities, or whether you plan nothing at all, as I use to do.

Un abrazo - Andrés

Bev & Jerry,

I got back the email I'd sent to Andres...apparently it is out of date. Have tried to call a couple of times, but it was busy. However, I see he has posted in the past day or two for the first time since August, so I've sent him a PM about this thread.

This sounds like so much fun!

You're probably right about the name of the street, my memory fades with the years, I was there in 2001, I did some gigs with The Shepherds, fine musicians all and lovely people, at the Druids and elsewhere, some of them are now with Na Fianna....another fine band, very young and very talented were - and are, I hope - Os Furafoles Gallega Asturiana, playing Asturian music, they had an email address osfurafoles@yahoo.es but I haven't been in touch for some time, but keep an eye out for them...I'm envious, had such a good time there, 4 months in all, bon voyage...

Zeph:

We think the street in question is probably Reconquista in Retiro. We know of at least three Irish pubs close together on this street.

I can't remember the name of the street but there's a kind of "Irish Alley" of pubs selling Guinness and /or with some Irish music...best is the "Druids", they have some good bands on...ask about a band called "Na Fianna", main man is Alejandro Sganga, he used to be in a band called "The Shepherds" (!) -now defunct- they played there alot, or visit Na Fianna's website www.nafianna.com.ar, whatever happens, you'll have a great time in 'the city that never sleeps'

Since Escamillo hasn't posted here yet, we doubt that he'd notice a PM. So, Kat, if you can contact him, ask him to send us a PM. Thanks.

I have contact info for Andres. I'd be happy to send him an email or give him a call on behalf of anyone, if so desired.

Welcome to the Mudcat, Angeles!

As Escamillo/Andres would say:

Un abrazo!

kat

We think Angeles was asking where we, in particular, are from. We live in California, USA.

Angeles:

We are from all over the world -- France, Iceland, Engfland, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Canda, the U.S.. There is one member of the Mudcat from Argentina -- his name is Escamillo. He has not been around in a while but if you can find a way to get in touch with him, it would be good.

If you join up and get a Mudcat name, you will then be able to send me a PM. If you do so I will see if I can find an email address for Escamillo, whose real name is Andres.

Regards,

Amos

We'll be in Buenos Aires during the first two weeks of November. Anyone know of any folk music venues there?

Bev and Jerry
