Subject: RE: nature based music From: GUEST,montanatunesmith Date: 09 Nov 05 - 11:32 PM Hey that Jenny Lester tune was great, thanks for the link to her site. Since I am new to this chat thing, I don't know what NDN means, but would love some titles etc. On my site you can download a few complete songs for free if youd like. I am wanting to write with a more "social change" type voice without sounding too preachy, and cynicle (forgive me I can't spell). I haven't achieved that quite yet. I think John Denver did a great job with this. It seems like the indigo girls did some naturish tunes too. In reference to the comment about native american music, I have tried in the past to weave in native flute music and it has been very effective...Carlos Naikki ALMOST played on the disc, but he referred me to a great player in Montana named Ken Light. We are coming out with a third disc that will feature the pianist George Winston, he really was able to add a majestic sound to the song, a feel like you are in the mountains type of thing. I am thinking about weaving an alpine horn into a song someday as well, because I think it could be interesting as historically it's sound was directed toward canyons to create an echo, and a layered effect. hope I am not boring you to death- montana tunesmith www.montanatunesmith.com |

I like what I hear!"Brother John" sounds like a beautiful song. Used to live in Wyoming and wrote a lot about its Natural Beauty, so I know what you mean about "Yellowstone Skies." Thanks for sharing! kat |
Subject: RE: nature based music From: katlaughing Date: 09 Nov 05 - 01:50 PM The women's group in Boston, "Libana" does some Earth-based songs which are quite beautiful, as does our own Mudcatter, "Animaterra" whose women's group is also called "Animaterra." Both have CDs available. I also know of a lot of Native American artists who sing of Nature, our Earth Mother, etc. Check out www.airos.org (American Indian Radio on Satellite) to hear some. If you'd like specific NDN artists names and songs, please let me know. They aren't what I'd call John Denver-like, but they are definitely nature-based. Tell us about some of your own, if you'd like. This should be an interesting thread. Thanks for starting it and welcome to the Mudcat. kat |

Subject: nature based music From: GUEST,montanatunesmith.com Date: 09 Nov 05 - 11:41 AM Hey, I am looking for other folks out there who have an interest in music about the outdoors, nature, etc. It seems like this music practically died with John Denver...I am trying to keep that message alive in music, anyone else out there doing the same? |
