Wesley S -

Yes we have both been looking for "the facts". Logic would suggest that a huge award cermony (like the Grammies have become) would put their vital information out in a more useable form.

Here are some answers:

Most Grammies by female: Leontyne Price (18), but one of those is probably a "Lifetime Achievement Award"

Most Grammies ever: Sir Georg Solti (conductor, Classical): 38

PDQ -

I've been looking for aome facts - remember I was only reporting what I'd read in the paper. This item below is from Alison's bio at www.cmt.com - the Country Music channel :

Krauss collaborated with rock musician Sting for "You Will Be My Ain True Love," one of two tracks she recorded for the 2003 film, Cold Mountain. The song garnered an Oscar nomination. She also teamed with James Taylor to record "How's the World Treating You" for the 2003 tribute album, Livin', Lovin', Losin': Songs of the Louvin Brothers. The pairing won a Grammy and Live won two. As of 2004, Krauss has won 17 Grammys.

Me again. This still doesn't prove that she has won the MOST. However there does seem to be some truth to the figure 17 that the paper reported.

She can play a pretty good fiddle.

I also agree Wesley ... prefer the driving up-tempo numbers myself, over those ballads

Alison might sing pop songs, but she is not a pop singer!

Can anyone verify " that Alison Krauss has won 17 Grammies"?

It is my undestanding that Vince Gill has won 14, the most for any living performer. That ties Gill with Hank Williams, who could not have been with us at the time that his (14)Grammies were awarded.

Jerry Douglas is a official member of Union Station, but he is also an official member of at least 5 or more other groups. He has won 9 Grammy awards including "Instrumental of the Year". Douglas is also a producer of great merit.

Is someone adding all the awards earned by Union Station members together and crediting them to Alison Krause?

They are a darn good band. I just wish they didn't do so many ballads - I prefer their uptempo numbers. And I thought Alison really screwd up the Nickel Creek CD she produced - it sounded like a Jr version of AKUS.

I wasn't aware of that Wesley ... just wanted to put in a plug for Union Station ... but she certainly has talent to boot also.

Six - from what I've heard Alison has resisted being marketed as a single act. The record companies have wanted her to drop the name Union Station - but she wants to be part of a band.

Call it whatever you will, she presents her music in a straighforward manner without prancing all over the stage or screaming at the top of her lungs.   Some may call that showmanship, but Alison focuses on the music not what she can do to it.   In the world of music it is nice to see accolades for someone whose focus is on music.

Begging to differ, but in fact, Allison IS pretty much a pop singer, albeit from a bluegrass background. She can do the non-pop stuff, but at festivals and concerts, it's a glossy, homogenized, and very pop - and popular - musician. Which is not to say that she isn't good; she (and her band) is great. But it's been a while since she wasn't a pop singer leading a pop band who playing traditional instruments. It's easy-listening music to some of us and no surprise that she wins awards like the Grammy. Bless her heart for making a living and popularizing the instruments, but if it ain't pop, what would you really call it?

She deserves them ... bu we should really acknowledge Union Station her band ... I don't think she would have made such an impact without them ... they have to be the tightest band these days.

I was pleased and suprised to read in the paper this morning that the woman who has received the most Grammie awards is not a pop singer. Not Diana Ross { who I would have guessed } or Aretha. Not Mariah or anyone like that.Alison Krauss has won 17 Grammies.

Of course that doesn't mean that they will start playing her on the radio any more than they have already. But an interesting fact anyway.
