The crucial useful thing in the club system is the fact that logical harmonies are easier. For example, on an ordinary D/G box. on the bass buttons in the key of G, you get a D chord on the pull, put the D melody note is on a push. Incompatible, you see. But with the club system you can get that D melody note on the pull or push. Which gives great flexibility whether you harmonise it with a G or D chord.
Also, in melodic terms, with the Club system you can get the whole scale of G on the pull, which greatly facilitates playing smooth runs(if that is your taste).

Yep

The club melodeon is similar to a standard 2-row (C/F, G/C, D/G), but ONE BUTTON on the inner row has been altered to be the same in as out. This allows for a smoother transition in the music and gets over a few of the limitations of a push-pull system without very much change. The basses were also changed to make them more suitable for the changed arrangement. The system was popular in the German clubs between the wars, hence the name.

You'll find loads of them on EBAY, in some cases having been "de-clubbed". Not many are sold new these days.

More information on keyboard layouts HERE.

Hi Folks

does anyone know why the Club melodeon is so called and what is the idea and benefit behind the one button that plays the same note each way?
