Never a great fan, but did really like "Through the Streets of Your Town" - however he is a local boy (Brisbane) :-)

Hey! The Beegees lived around here too! One of the guys I worked with went to school with them...

Thanks for posting this,Foolestroupe--The Go-Betweens have always been a favorite group of mine--the songs were clever, insightful, catchy, with never a trace of pop music cliches. The melodies were quirky and original. McLennan had a a gift for everything--a great writer/composer and musician, and a haunting voice--too young to be gone--

I'd call his music "Aussie Rock Folk".
Heard of "Through the Streets of Your Town" from the 80's?
His recent song 'Cattle & Cane' had some fuss made over it.
He was young.

McLennan, 48, died in his sleep at his Brisbane home.

The Go-Betweens was one of Australia's most influential indie bands with dedicated fans worldwide.

McLennan was born in Rockhampton, Queensland, on February 12, 1958 and raised by his mother on a cattle station.

He formed The Go-Betweens in 1977 with Robert Forster while attending university during the Bjelke-Petersen era.

McLennan, who was arrested during student protests, later likened the period to the cultural dark ages and often used Brisbane and Queensland as a point of reference in his songwriting.

During the 80s, The Go-Betweens became the much admired part of the Queensland and Australian music scene with songs like Bachelor Kisses and Through the Streets of Your Town.

The Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) recently voted McLennan's autobiographical song Cattle and Cane, released in 1983, as one of the 10 greatest Australian songs of all time.
