Subject: RE: Tech: Alphabetizing Favorites From: JohnInKansas Date: 07 Jul 06 - 07:11 PM Good Eye Mick. I thought I'd plowed through all the menus, but hadn't spotted the sort there. It is on my IE menu. (Same version as yours, which is apparently the current one.) John |

(I'm using IE 6.0.2900.2180 (apparently). It's possible the option came from Plus Tools but I don't think so). Mick |

Subject: RE: Tech: Alphabetizing Favorites From: JohnInKansas Date: 07 Jul 06 - 05:22 PM So far as I've found, there is no "automated sort" function. If you click the Favorites on the top toolbar (next to View) you can click "Organize Favorites" where moving things around may be a bit easier. This is usually the best place for moving individual links from one folder to another. If you have folders within folders, it's about the only place where you really have much control over what happens. You can also just click and drag in the list to move folders into alphabetical order in this list. If you click the Favorites (with the Star, beside Search) you get a side panel that may actually be an easier place to just click and drag, as long as you're doing fairly simple stuff. In either place, the tendency for the list to "scroll" unpredictably while a "drag" is in process makes it easy to drop a folder in a folder instead of between folders etc., so it's really a pretty crude system. I try to avoid dragging past the edge of a window. Drag to near the edge, reposition the window, and drag again within the new visible area. If you have a really big bunch of favorites, you can also use File | Export | Favorites to send the whole list to a .htm file that you can open and edit in Word. (Be sure you save as .htm after editing.) Word has Sort functions, but the tree structure in the .htm document may make it difficult to get useful results with them. To get them back into the Favorites list, you'd need to delete everything there, and then use File | Import | Favorites. An alternative is to Export the list, organize in the .htm file, and put a link to the .htm file in Explorer's Favorites list, and just ignore (or delete) the rest of the rolldown list. You'll want to "experiment" to see if results are helpful before making major changes though (i.e. whether you like the way the links show in "document" format). John |

Subject: RE: Tech: Alphabetizing Favorites From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 07 Jul 06 - 01:50 PM To amplift slightly what Max says, you need to open the list from the Favourites Menu item (ie next to View) and right click on one of the favourites from the drop-down list there. If you open the Favourites pane from the icon (next to Search), the option isn't available on the list there). Mick |

Subject: RE: Tech: Alphabetizing Favorites From: jacqui.c Date: 07 Jul 06 - 01:05 PM Older versions may require you to go into 'org' to click and drag. That was what I used to have to do before I got the updated version of Windows. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Alphabetizing Favorites From: Max Date: 07 Jul 06 - 11:50 AM If you right click on one of your favorites, you can choose "sort by name" from the menu. That'll do it. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Alphabetizing Favorites From: Scoville Date: 07 Jul 06 - 11:42 AM Dont you just click and drag? Mine lets me click, hold the mouse button, and then drag the title into place. My version of Explorer is pretty new so I assume it still works that way but I don't know for certain. |

Subject: Tech: Alphabetizing Favorites From: leeneia Date: 07 Jul 06 - 10:20 AM How can I make my list of Favorites on the Internet Explorer page appear in alphabetical order? Is there a way? Thanks |
