I thought I posted this but it seems to have got lost...

Simon Plantinga's page says the files were generated from ABC, but the ABC itself is nowhere I can see, nor can I see any way to contact him.

Ideas? Where can I get it?

The University of Leiden has wonderful groups and studies all year round.

For ALL TYPES OF DUTCH DANCE (Utriecht alone has over 24 groups) you are best to start with a University connection. Be SURE to Scroll down this newly updated page - many fine listing are at the bottom

The first reference I saw to this Dutch collction was in the songbook "Breaking Bread," which I use in church. Trouble is, that book has the collection's name spelled wrong. The actual name is

Oude en Nieuwe Hollantse Boerenlieties en Contredansen


(Old and New Hollandish Farmersongs and Contradances)

and that's why Google couldn't find it for me.

kat, I had no idea a person could do that!

Of course, there never were any belly-dancing nuns. I merely referred to a tune that was in the belly-dance minor, a term of my own for the minor scale where one sharps the seventh.

Now to find some neat new tunes for the gang to play in August...

As you can see in this thread (click), I was not particularly aghast. At my age, I've seen it all. However, since the average age of nuns in the United States is 63, most of them should probably keep their bellies covered. I had different ideas about one particular nun many years ago, but she was in her twenties...
As I am approaching the age of 58, I'd better keep my belly covered, too.

I think this may be the link in one of Masato's listings which you are looking for: click here. I found it by going to Quick Links, dropping the menu down to Old Adv. Forum Search, then putting "Dutch" as the subject and "Masato" as the member, then voila! Hope this helps!

Folk singers in the Netherlands? has several links, not all "clickified." That thread appears to have run from about Aug – Sept 03.

There's a fairly long list of websites by Gargoyle, without clickies, that he says is "everything Dutch" or that "the Dutch do everything" or something to that effect.

I didn't see Joe's reference to his dancers though.

As an alternative to the thread you're looking for, maybe one of the "Dutch stuff" sites go listed more than one?

I have found that threads I remember as being "a few weeks ago" often turn out to have died several years back. … I guess you remember the good stuff like it was yesterday. Have you searched really far back?

I've been trying to find a certain old thread, and I can't find it. It dealt with old Dutch music, the song "There's a Wideness in God's Mercy," and a 1710 music collection called "Oude en Nieuwe Boerenlities."

I believe it was Masato that cut through the fog and gave a link to a site with facsimilies of that collection.

Remember Joe being aghast at the idea of "belly-dancing nuns?" (Not that anybody had actually said anything about belly-dancing nuns.)

What I really want is that site.
