"Mole he is burrowing, his way to the sunlight,
He knows there's someone there so strong."

That is my favourite Moody song. I really like that one line in particular.

Nights in blue flannelette do it for me these days LOL.
Love all the MBs music..still play it fairly regularly on the old vinyls.

Nights in White Satin still does it for me - probably just wishful thinking now!

"This garden universe vibrates complete,
Some, we get a sound so sweet.
Vibrations, reach on up to become light,
And then through gamma, out of sight.
Between the eyes and ears there lie,
The sounds of color and the light of a sigh.
And to hear the sun, what a thing to believe,
But it's all around if we could but perceive.
To know ultra-violet, infra-red, and x-rays,
Beauty to find in so may ways.
Two notes of the chord, that's our poor scope,
And to reach the chord is our life's hope.
And to name the chord is important to some,
So they give it a word, and the word is OM."

Oh dear.

Didn't the Moody Blues come from Birmingham where all good people come from?

Why do we never get an answer
When we're knocking at the door
With a thousand million questions
About hate and death and war?
'Cos when we stop and look around us,
There is nothing that we need,
In a world of persecution
That is burning in its greed.

Seems like things haven't changed much from when those lyrics were written and now.

I was just listening to it the other day whilst doing some tidying up.
Excellent music and a lot better than most of the pretentions junk curently being released.
Quack!

I saw the Moody Blues with Denny Laine as lead singer in South Wlaes in about 1964 or 65. They were fantasic.I bought the album "The Magnificent Moodies" which was indeed magnificent with sleeve notes by Donovan.
The band they mutated into later was a bit soft mushy and far too pretentious for me!!

I'll have to go see if our LP is still any good. My mother used to love the Moody Blues but we haven't gotten them out for years.

Hey GS, might have known you'd started this thread. The Moodies just keep getting better - not long now until we go to see them at Nottingham - 30th September - yeah!

I still have copies of 'Search for the lost chord' and 'Threshold of a dream' - terrible pretentious drivel (sitting in darkened rooms singing 'om' above a dirge of sitars), I must dig them out and listen and make myself ill. I think I turned 'Evry good boy deserves favours' into a flower bowl. That last album has one of the worst lyrics I think I have ever heard -

"I can see them they can't see me
I feel out of sight.
I can see them they can't see me
Much to my delight."

That's has stayed with me for perhaps 35 years as being the nadir of the lyricist's craft

Still I must have liked it at the time.

That takes me back! The first LP I ever bought. For some reason this section was recited with a terrific echo and a wind howling in the background. IIRC it was followed by a long instrumental track called "The Journey"

Other good tracks were Sunday Afternoon and Have You Heard?. Alas stolen from my record cabinet during a burglary many years ago now.

The Dream (Graeme Edge)

When the white eagle of the North is flying overhead
The browns, reds and golds of autumn lie in the gutter, dead.
Remember then, that summer birds with wings of fire flaying
Came to witness springs new hope, born of leaves decaying.
Just as new life will come from death, love will come at leisure.
Love of love, love of life and giving without measure
Gives in return a wonderous yearn of a promise almost seen.
Live hand-in-hand and together we'll stand on the threshold of a dream.
