Subject: RE: Review: Richard Thompson 1,000 of poular music From: Mark Ross Date: 24 Sep 06 - 11:49 PM Saw him do this show in Eugen Oregon here last spring. Absolutely magnificent! 2 1/2 hours without a break, accompanied by two accomplished musicians on percussion, vocals, and keyboards. And when someone in the crowd called out for one of RT's songs he replied, "We're doing the best songs of the millenium, I don't think I belong in that class", or something to that effect. It was a brilliant performance. Mark Ross |
Subject: RE: Review: Richard Thompson 1,000 of poular music From: GUEST,Zulu Date: 24 Sep 06 - 06:53 PM Yes i agree.Been to too many folk places and unless you enter with finger in ear or trad songs you feel unwanted.I believe a song should be enjoyed on it's own merits and not coz of who wrote it or sang it first.Pete Doherty has wrote some good tunes, but dont try to say they are by him coz you will get "go straight to jail card"played at you. |

Subject: Review: Richard Thompson 1,000 of poular music From: GUEST,Zulu Date: 24 Sep 06 - 01:36 PM Just bought the dvd of Richard Thompson's 1,000 years of popular music.I know he is an icon for a lot in the folk scene. So fair play to him for his efforts to put over a wide range in this project.I have always thought folk folk giving boundaries as to what is cool and what is not was wrong.Well,Richard doing songs made popular by Bowling for Soup and Brittany Spears, with full vocal accompaniment by the whole audience brought a boad smile to my face.Nothing should be out of bounds in music and he went a long way to proving that.Keep it up Richard even if it was tongue in cheek. |
