Subject: RE: Folklore: Chris Wood - Not Icons but Jewels Music From: Herga Kitty Date: 03 Dec 06 - 11:21 AM Chris performed a very entertaining and well balanced set yesterday at Haddenham. I was chatting to him beforehand, and he wasn't aware of this thread on Mudcat so I'm refreshing it now. To tell the truth, he wasn't aware of Mudcat either, but said he'd have a look. He's going to be touring Ireland next March. Kitty |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Chris Wood - Not Icons but Jewels Music From: leeneia Date: 06 Nov 06 - 08:15 AM I looked at the site. It uses sans-serif print that is hard to read. The type size is too small. It's wordy. Here's an example: "The work outlined on the site seeks to articulate and amplify the case for authentic and meaningful indigenous forms of cultural expression." Their aims may be laudable, but they need to learn what makes a good website. |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Chris Wood - Not Icons but Jewels Music From: Wyrd Sister Date: 04 Nov 06 - 04:34 AM Many excellent points. I particularly liked the 'love thy neighbour AS THYSELF', something which I failed to explain as succintly to my multiculturalist ex-boss, who had me down as a Little-Englander. |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Chris Wood - Not Icons but Jewels M From: Les in Chorlton Date: 04 Nov 06 - 02:47 AM Thanks Jim, that was really interesting and thought provocking. I bought Ghosts sometime ago. It is like nothing else whilst still clearly bang at the heart of English traditional music |

Subject: Folklore: Chris Wood - Not Icons but Jewels Music From: GUEST,Jim Martin Date: 03 Nov 06 - 11:42 PM Just read a very interesting item on the English Acoustic Collective website - Journal of Music in Ireland article (originally heard Chris talking on RTÉ LyricFM radio). Well worth a read! http://www.englishacousticcollective.org.uk |
