Dave Townsend has just sent the dots in advance for 'Awake & Join the Cheerful Choir', one of the carols he'll be tackling in the Lewes Arms workshop on Satruday 18th. November. This is also on the CD 'Under The Greenwood Tree' so non-readers may find it more accessible. Workshop places are still available.

Phil Humphries has also sent some music in advance for his 'Early Music for Folk Musicians' workshop on Sunday 19th. November. This workshop is close to being sold out.

I was at the Millennium festival(as all of them)and Harky Harky is another of my Christmastime CDs. Actually I was watching the video of the millennium do yesterday so I may have seen you! (Been doing some sorting out and found it so decided to have a reprise)

Again, I would love to 'do' Padstow but it would mean dereliction of duty up here... I'll have to do May Day instead...

I would love to be there but Cornwall is just too far away. It will be a brilliant day. Perhaps you should ask him about the Songs of Praise that he did for Thomas Hardy's 200 anniversary [of his birth that is}. It's still the only SoP that had 2 breweries in the end credits!!
Wyrd sister - Our 'real' Carols start on Dec 3rd, Market Square, Padstow. Again a continuing trdaition as you have in Sheffield. Coming to the Festival of Village Carols in Sheffield for the Millennium with Padstow Carollers was something very special.

Sheffield and environs, of course, where it's still a living tradition.

I wasn't being dismissive, just meaning that I couldn't/wouldn't attend cos it would mean missing a couple of sessions. I have had Dave's Mellstock 'Under the Greenwood Tree' CD (tunes and carols) for some years now and play it regularly.

Anyone in the area and thinking of giving them a try - go for it!

            Dave Townsend is one of the leading figures in the revival of West Gallery singing. His work with the Mellstock Band, performing, recording, publishing & teaching, has been hugely influential. He is also a virtuoso English concertina player & fiddler. Phil Humphries (serpent & trombone) works with him in the Mellstock Band & The Lost Chord.

            The workshop is for singers & musicians. Music reading is helpful but not essential. Music for one carol will be sent in advance.
