Subject: RE: words to 'Emma Emma' From: Paul Slater (inactive) Date: 14 Mar 99 - 05:45 AM This Halyard Shanty (Also called 'Down the Bay to Juliana') has been sung for many years by English Folkie, Roy Harris. This version taken from the singing of Johnny Collins on the CD 'Shanties and Songs of the Sea' issued by Grasmere No GRCD75. Emma, Emma let me be Roll her down the bay to Juliana It's Emma, Emma let me be Them Windward girls they all love me But now I'm bound away to sea Them Windward girls are hard to beat A-pullin' on your old main sheet Why do them Judies love me so? Because I don't tell all I know It's Oh Miss Emma don't you cry Goodbye me darlin' girl goodbye In the morning we do sail away Around the Horn a-chasing whale It's Oh Miss Emma Fare you well You'll always be me darlin' gal Hope this is useful, Cheers, Paul |

Send Miss Emma to the crow
Windard girls are hard to beat
Oh the dawning of the day
Haul boys when she takes a roll
Sweat that yard the mate did say
There's more but I can't think of them at the moment. |

Subject: words to 'Emma Emma' From: PDiB3 Date: 12 Mar 99 - 04:41 PM Im looking for words to a Negro shantey called "Emma Emma"... the chorus is "Rolling down the Bay to Juliana". The song appears on a compilation CD a buddy of mine has, and is performed by "Starboard List". We can't make out some of the words, so any assistance will be appreciated. |
