I think this "talent" thing is all relative; for example, I think that all three put together have only a tenth of the writing talent of Jackson Browne!

Greg, I am going to have another listen to Critical Mass/Wind on the Water, to see if I can hear something I have missed in the past. Like you, I think he is a very fine singer and his contribution to the vocal sound was definitely his most important role in a unique band. I think "Teach Your Children" is an agreeable song, and "Marrakesh Express" is an even more pleasant piece of sixties pop. I can't detect the sly wit of Steve Stills or the harmonic sophistication of David Crosby in any of his songs though. Credit to my compatriot for what he has achieved. All the same, I don't feel I am doing him an injustice by saying he has written lots of songs, which I do not need to hear a second time. That is not quite the same as slagging him off!

To those who'd slag off Graham's writing, I'd point to
Critical Mass/Wind on the Water (to the last whale). Magnificent
work, and ditto the arrangement.

And when someone comes up with something like 'Teach Your Children'
that becomes a sort of anthem to an entire generation, well, I'll
chalk the negativity up to jealousy.

While we're at it, shall we talk about fantastic vocal talent,
along with high-register longevity that is second to none? Over
the years, it's always been a gas to watch him jam his hands
into the front pockets of his jeans and belt out those ringing
high parts that just about define the CSNY sound.

The complexity of the arrangements (not to mention that they
did a lot of them under great chemical influence) are pretty
amazing.

However! He had a knack of writing very catchy songs, and I bet " Our House" has made money than any other CSN composition.

What you say about Nash's music may be true, alanabit. Certainly a matter of opinion. A clear fact, though, is that Nash has aged better than the others!

I think he is a good guy and a very fine singer. I am not so sure about the evidence to support the description "incredible musician". He was (by far) the least accomplished instrumentalist and writer of CSNY. Many of his compositions were embarrassingly twee. Thanks for posting the link about his photography and art work. It sounds interesting.

I recently had the pleasure of attending and video taping
a presentation by Graham Nash, who besides being an incredible
musician is also a reknowned (sp?) photographer and graphic artist.
there is an mp3 of an interview with Graham talking about Nash
Editions which has been a leader in digital images and bringing
back black and white . He speaks about 14 megapixel pictures.
