The Lewes Arms Folk Club is delighted to welcome Laura as our guest on Saturday 25th. November - one of a much-needed breed of young performers. She's dedicated enough to be coming all the way from Newcastle to Sussex by public transport with her cello (following in the footsteps of Alistair Anderson about four weeks ago).

Laura Hewison is a young musician who combines voice and cello to produce innovative and expressive arrangements of both traditional and original songs. Laura has performed extensively regionally and beyond and as well as solo performing, she is involved in a number of bands and ensembles, two of which (Bmused and The Art of Kissing) were chosen to perform at the Sound 05 festival at The Sage, Gateshead. As a member of folkESTRA North!, directed by Kathryn Tickell, Laura's interest in traditional music grew and she performed at festivals such as Sidmouth and Towersey.

As a winner of New Roots 2006, Laura performed at Sidmouth Folk Week and various folk clubs throughout the country. New Roots judges' comments were:

"Laura is a charismatic performer and her presence captures the audience", "Lots of energy", "Totally involved in the music", "Fearlessly adventurous arrangements", "Terrific potential!"

Laura is studying Folk and Traditional Music at Newcastle University.

She also performs with Sarah Miller as part of the duo 'The Evil Sweeties' and with the band 'The Red Letter Suits'.

See you at the Lewes Arms on Saturday 25th. November - admission £4, floor singers always welcome, Harveys draught bitter still available for the time being thanks to the efforts of our energetic local MP Norman Baker against the corporate might of Greene King.

Tootle pip,

Valmai
