Subject: Chords Add: ALL FOR THE ROSES (from Christy Moore)
From: GUEST

Unless someone disagrees with this, I think I've sorted out the chords..... It's a great song to fingerpick in a steady 2/4 beat

Capo 2nd or 3rd fret as preferred

      C                G
He's twenty five, he's sick and tired

    C                G
It's time to try the other side

C             G
The B & I to paradise

    C                   G
To sergeants and their men

and so on until chorus.... keep with the G chord

             C
All for the roses

G         C
Over the sea

F            C
All for the roses

G               C
Fingles boys to be

If anyone has a view on the above please getbin touch.

Best wishes

I've been struggling to get started with the chords for this song (All For The Roses), too. They're probably dead simple and it could be that I'm making the mistake of looking for something more complicated. So, like William, if anyone does know the chords, please pass them on.

Cheers

Subject: Lyr Add: ALL FOR THE ROSES (Wally Page,Tony Boylan
From: Wolfgang

ALL FOR THE ROSES
(Wally Page, Tony Boylan)

He's twenty-five, he's sick and tired
It's time to try the other side
The B & I to paradise
To sergeants and their men.

He's never been to Dun Na Ri
Nor combed the beaches after three
Chips and beer and greenery
Sergeants and their men.

He signed and took the soldiers crest
A decent man in battle dress
When bugles blow you do your best
for Sergeants and their men.

It's all for the roses, it's over the sea
It's all for the roses, Finglas boys to be.

He's way ahead, he's second to none
With his fabrique nationali gun
Marching bands with Saxon blood
Sergeants and their men.

They landed with the sinking sun
An invasion by the media run
They covered up and kissed with tongues
Sergeants and their men.

But the phantom gunner danced the end
Battered human bodies bled
They butchered us, we butchered them
Sergeants and their men.

It's all for the roses, it's over the sea
It's all for the roses, Finglas boys to be.

But a flower of sleep grows on his grave
Forgotten soon, the cowards and the brave
But the coldest hate still lives today
for Sergeants and their men.

It's all for the roses, it's over the sea
It's all for the roses, Finglas boys to be.

Wolfgang (typing from the CD leaflet)

The lyrics are in the Voyage CD. I'll be at the place where my CDs are over the weekend and may find the time to type them.

Allmusic.com says ALL FOR THE ROSES was written by Tony Boylan and Walter Pate. Christy Moore recorded it on his album "Voyage," 1989.

I played the sound sample and transcribed this, although I don't really understand it:

He's never been to ...
Combed the beaches at ...
Shiftin' beer and greenery
Brothers one and all
He signed and took the soldier's ...
A decent man unlike (or "and like"?) the rest
Bugles blow, you do your best
For sergeants and....

I suspect "beer and greenery" is some sort of an allusion because it's used as a heading in this BBC News story.
