Subject: RE: Folklore: Happy 2007 From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 31 Dec 06 - 06:32 AM 1 hour & 30 mins or so to go here. Normally I try to avoid the midnight hour by going to bed before the noise starts. I live in Sydney's 24 hour entertainment area - everyone comes here to make noise, & it goes on forever. It wasn't always so, according to an Oral History record I found - in the 30's folk came out from their homes onto the main road at 11.50 & counted down & were gone back home to party on by 12.10, leaving only a few party hats 7 streamers. But that was before pubs stayed open past 6pm & there was no such thing as 24 hour premises! Last year I actually went out to see the early fireworks & took some great pics, this year I got my times wrong - early fireworks are 9, not 9.30, so I just had a look at the tail end over the rooftops, & bought some Thai food. Maybe I might go & look at the midnight fireworks, or maybe I might just finish my jijsaw cos the yahoo part of the crowd will have more alcohol on board & will have dropped several hours more rubbish ... The jigsaw is looking more appealing Happy New Year! sandra |
