Oh, it was you George

I didn't think you ever had big hair?

Did you look like Bonnie Tyler in your youth?

It wasn't a lady with big hair, Ross - It was a bloke. Or maybe a bearded lady?

Nice to know it is still going and at least my memory was pointing in the right direction:-)

Eeeeeeh - Nostalgia ain't what it used to be...

:D

Hi Dave - the Bedford Folk Club is still going on wednesday nights - I've never seen the lady with the big hair though who is famaous - was it Boudica

The club is now run by a chap called Mike Blair who runs a music shop in Ampthill

I think it's the same club as you knew as they even spent a spell back at the Fleur last year and they mentioned it was their first home

They have swopped venues a lot in recent years - probably half a dozen times in three years

They are currently at Daley's Social club in Kempston

There are also a few other clubs/things going on in Bedford that are probably spin offs

The Swan hotel by the river is still there, but the river is now a car park

DtG, I know the Fleur de Lys because we did a couple of gigs there towards the end of last year. It was a fairly basic pub near the centre. I don't know if they have a club there though.

I spent a lot of time in Bedford itself in the early 80's, Visited some people in Sandy occasionaly but that's another story. Anyone know if there is still a folk club right near the centre of Bedford. It was in walking distance of the hotel we always stayed at - The Swan I think. Now, I can remember the pub sign - It was either a Prince of Wales feathers or a Fleur de Lys - and the pub had the name of whatever it was! It was run by someone quite famous - Good guitarist with big hair. Could have been famous from some band like Magna Carta if I remember rightly.

Sorry to be vague but every time I see anything about Bedford I always try to remember that folk club. Too many grey cells have drowned in beer since though;-)

Cheers

DtG

Should be, I think, but I'm in Yorkshire on Thursday so I can't be there (I didn't make it last month either as my car was garaged). I'll give Phil a ring on 07941 102 786.

:-)

Hi Sarah

I hope I might get across for this, as it isn't too far and my mother lives in Caxton.

The Chequers used to be run by "Sid and Missis" who did the bus (he drove and she did escort) for Comberton Village College in the 1960s. They were very popular with the kids not least because they would stop at the Enterprise Cafe on what was the old A45 to pick up the pigswill (they put the bins in the boot of the bus) and the kids could go and buy sweets while they were doing this.

If we ever biked to The Chequers, there was always a welcome and a (free) glass of lemonade.

I think their son is still the landlord, but I'd thought the pub went part-time a while ago.

:-)
Ian
