Amanda Palmer is more than just another pop-art vocalist. She's a major heroine in the Boston area (grew up in Lexington, if I recall correctly) who became a celebrated underground performance artist.

Earlier she invented herself as "The Eight Foot Bride" around Cambridge and environs. In extra-length bridal gown standing on a likewise draped chair, she invented herself as a statue that comes to life, a sort of coin-operated device making a brief mechanical motion of startling beauty. One of the most riveting street performances ever.

Her Dresden Dolls career is certainly a better money-maker, but is only a fraction of this multitalented artist's skills and inspirations. Long live Amanda! Bob

I my never-ending attempt to explore new music and see what sticks (including listening to what interests the daughters in my life) I have discovered the following:

Fair warning: the band is pretty darn wierd, with a dark spin and some raw topics and treatments.

But I think this song is an absolute gem. I loved the video, too.

It is "How Can I Keep From Singing?" for a new generation, and gives me a little hope.
