Subject: RE: hear great music in Kansas City, MO this Satur From: GUEST,Dale Date: 26 Jan 07 - 04:47 PM Do not doubt their musicianship for a single second. I just googled their band list and found this, though I can't vouch that will be the exact lineup at the concert. Kelly Winter - Piano Accordion and Concertina Eileen Gannon - Harp and Concertina Ian Walsh - Fiddle and Mandolin Kevin Buckley - Fiddle, Guitar and Bouzouki Tommy Martin - Uilleann Pipes and Flute At the moment I do not recognize the latter two, but the first three are well known to me and are all exceptional musicians. Eileen Gannon's parents lead the St. Louis Arts group which has taught Irish music to countless area youngsters. Kelly Winter and Ian Walsh are among their prized pupils over the years. If I were closer, I would consider the trip, but I expect I will have to wait until this summer when the St. Louis Irish Arts group makes their yearly visit to Mountain View, AR. |

Subject: RE: hear great music in Kansas City, MO this Saturday From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 26 Jan 07 - 04:06 PM yes. I said small pipes because they're not the big Highland pipes and I didn't know how to spell uillean. |

Subject: RE: hear great music in Kansas City, MO this Saturday From: DannyC Date: 26 Jan 07 - 10:27 AM "Misla" includes the Dublin uillean piper Tommy Martin, don't they? No small piping there. His set is said to comprise components of the pipes from the great Leo Rowsome. I heard Rowsome's wild style from the first notes that I heard fly from Tommy's chanter. He comes by the music honestly enough as I've seen a pic of his grandfather, Tommy Martin, playing the pipes at a feis in Wexford circa 1924. If they suffer requests I'd ask Kevin Buckley to roll out his rendering of the epic fiddle tune, "Lord Gordon's". To paraphrase the Diageo marketing team - Brilliant! I understand that Eileen Gannon is an All-Ireland champion on the harp. I cannot say I know of Ian's music. (Let's just hope he's not one of those band-members-brother types come over to see America.) I'd say you're in for a treat. |

Subject: hear great music in KC this Saturday From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 25 Jan 07 - 12:22 PM This Saturday, January 27th, the Irish band Misla is playing at All Souls church. Small pipes, fiddle, harp, accordion etc. For more info, go to MVFS.org You know it'll be good when the musicians include an Eileen, a Kevin, and an Ian. Sound will be by a skilled lover of traditional music, not by a band member's brother who just came along because he wants to see America. I'll be there. |
