Subject: RE: Tech: Encryption DVD bypass From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 28 Jan 07 - 06:05 PM The Advanced Access Content System (AACS) Licensing Authorit are claiming the problem is not with their encryption process but with the hardware that permits it to be read and therefore it is not a security breach. Hmmmm....the cookies are hidden under a towel in the front yard, but the rats still steal them?

Subject: RE: Tech: Encryption DVD bypass From: Bill D Date: 27 Jan 07 - 08:23 PM There is an almost weekly update on the freeware newsgroup of a set of programs which will 'rip' DVDs..(for 'backup' purposes, of course). "When will they ever learn?" |

Subject: RE: Tech: Encryption DVD bypass From: Stilly River Sage Date: 27 Jan 07 - 08:01 PM I thought they had so many security details built into the Vista that it was going to cause DVD players playing copies to grind to a halt as the operating system kicked in. Wasn't sure how it was supposed to happen, but this is what an engineer friend told me. Interesting turn-about. SRS |

Subject: Tech: Encryption DVD bypass From: GUEST Date: 27 Jan 07 - 06:49 PM AACS has a simple bypass. The attack angle works against every format making use of AACS. Bluetooth and DVD. A screen capture and print page will reveal the encryption code. The new VISTA makes it particularly simple. The studios are upset and are calling for a recall of software/machines. Over 40 new films have gone onto open file sharing within the past two weeks. Information was first publicly released on doom9.net discussion forum. It is not a hack. Another victory for open-source-information. |
