Our visits in 04 and 05 left us with a joyous feeling which lasted for weeks after each visit.

This year we wondered what sort of Festival we had been to.Most of our highlights were Glasgow based rather than Festival based.

There seemed to be much less choice of events and the performers almost without exception played even faster and less musically than before. Was this a policy decision.

For example in the Festival Club on Saturday night Lau gave a perfect example of how three virtuoso performers together are at best no better than any of them on their own.I accept that a large hotel function room crammed with patrons on a Saturday night is unlikely to produce much thought provoking music but...

By contrast our highlight was Sunday night in The Universal -Sauchiehall Lane where   we finished our visit with a couple of hours of Songs and Music from The Highlands. Wonderful.

Part of our difficulties were caused by poor selection of events but when you have to book accommodation before the programme is finalized it is not possible to select the most suitable 3 or 4 days.

But will be there next year if we can get reasonably priced accommodation after the programme has been finalized.:0)

Just got back from Celtic Connections 2007 in Glasgow slightly bemused by the changes since 2005.

Before committing to an expensive first trip to Lewis any observations on the 2006 Festival would be most welcome. A polished crystal ball view for 2007 would also be of great interest.:0)

Traddie (with modernist leanings.)
