Steve Edwards, one of movers and shakers who kept the Swansea Valley folk scene thriving, has suddenly died. His funeral will be 2pm at Margam Crematorium on Wednesday this week.

Steve was a fervent supporter of the Valley Folk Club, Pontardawe, and for many years was treasurer of Pontardawe International Festival. The festival chair, David Hammond-Williams, said: "One of the festival's staunchest supporters, Steve Edwards, died unexpectedly at the weekend (Feb 3rd) at his home here in Pontardawe.

"The news has come as a big shock to his many friends. There were very few people in the village that didn't know Steve - and his irrepressible good humour and his willingness to help a friend will be sorely missed.

"His contribution to the festival was immense. He was one of those stalwarts who, over the many years that he was involved, turned his hand to virtually every job. And his involvement continued right up to the present. We had discussed matters in hand only a few days before his death."

Cas Smith said: "Steve was a regular at the Valley Folk Club, Pontardawe before booking the guest artists for a while. Following this he was treasurer for many years. Steve was someone who was always there - in person or supporting his friends and interests in many ways. He will be missed tremendously by us all and I am sure others will remember him with a smile as I do."
