Subject: RE: Tech: Setting up WinMX From: GUEST,Richard Bridge somehere else on the network Date: 18 Feb 07 - 04:26 PM Aah hah! Remove old Win MX, install new WinMX from here. http://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/winmx_fix.html I only use the damn things to find versions of songs that I can then arrange and perform as arranged, so I don't really feel like a pirate! This is why things like Limewire are not a lot of wonderful for me - nothing I want to perform available there! |

Subject: RE: Tech: Setting up WinMX From: JohnInKansas Date: 18 Feb 07 - 02:35 PM My Google toolbar offers "WinMX help" as a popular subject. Wiki also appears to have some discussion about a recent change in program ver, and there are a couple of "our magic plugin gets you back on line" near the top when I search just for WinMX. It's not a program I've looked at though. Disabling the firewall doesn't necessarily open all ports, since some of them arent' used except for special purposes; and it may be that the one the program needs is just one that's turned off. The easiest way to open a less used one may be with the firewall on (to access the controls) and poke in an "ok to open" for the specific port needed - but I'm just guessing. John |

Subject: Tech: Setting up WinMX From: Richard Bridge Date: 18 Feb 07 - 08:46 AM Does anyone know how to get WinMX set up? I can't get it to find the internet, even if I disable the firewall on the computer and the firewall on the router. Or should I give up and try Shareaza, which I think was not tied to the now defunct Kazaa network? |
