I'm really pleased for them. If you haven't had them at your club, don't hesitate - apart from the great and sensitive singing & playing, if your audience weren't in a good mood at the beginning of the evening, they will be by the time Sue and Liz have finished with them - their humerous stuff is great too, and sooo infectious.

Cheers
Sylvia

Well done girls.
You could'nt wish to meet two nicer people than Sue & Liz & they deserve wider acclaim. Club/festival organisers have a listen.
Cheers
Les

Sue and Liz will be reaching a wider audience when they are part of the prestigious Archive Hour documentary show on Radio 4 on Saturday, 14th April at 8pm. The will be telling the story of the women and their children who were at the heart of Fleetwood's fishing heritage through their presentation We Are The Women Left On The Shore.

They were performing their show at Lancaster last year when cultural historian Dr Sam Riches was in the audience. She was inspired by what she heard and the way they put the story across with songs, poems and narration, and immediately thought it deserved a much wider audience.

Scolds Bidle (Sue Bousfield and Liz Moore) have folk roots deep in the Fleetwood community. They were residents in the early days of Fleetwood Folk Club, and drew a rich supply for We Are The Women from the many shows they have been involved in for the club.

They have taken the 70 minute show to appreciative audiences at festivals, clubs and other venues across the country, and have invested the show not just with their talent, but with a genuine link to the people on whose lives it is based.

The songs tell the stories - Sailing Day Blues sets feet tapping, the OMO song gets a laugh with its tale of a soap packet signal by a lady of the night, but it's the tales of tragedy like Why Are You Crying Mam? which underline the heartbreaking history of the industry, and pluck the heartstrings of the listener. And the epic anthem Flowers of the Sea tells it all in one giant song to close the show on a massive highnote.

Liz and Sue have learned their craft in a 30 year career, and the Archive Hour is an accolade to their considerable talent and to this wonderful, emotional presentation.

Scolds Bridle will also be performing We Are The Women at Saddleworth in July.

Ali
