I know this is late notice,'cause i'm not tapped into the local, I didn't know about this until today.

On May 1 & 2, in Douglas, Wyoming (about an hour from Casper, where I am; about 3 from Denver) they are holding the High Plains Music Show & Contest, at the Douglas High School Auditorium. According to the newspaper, in the past, over one hundred musicians from all over the Rocky Mtns. have come to jam and compete. It starts at 9am each day, with prelims on the first and finals on the second. The Saturday Night Showcase features two group competitions: The Band Scramble and No-Holds Barred Competition. The band scarmble matches musicians up by the luck of the draw and they have a brief time toprepare together then perform. The no holds barred features any number of musicians in any combo of instruments playing for five minutes. saturday's finale is "pickin' in the lounge" at the Best Western Inn. Sunday morn begins with a Gospel Music Hour.

Participants are let in free. otherwise it is $5 per day, $5 for sat. nite, or $12.50 for the weekend Srs. and kids under 12, are $3, $3 or $8, under 5yrs is free and there are special rates of groups and couples. Sounds like they want to be pretty inclusive, eh? Vocal categories include adult male and female, youth, duets, group and gospel. There are five catgories for fiddles and typically the following instruments are also represented: dulcimer, banjo, guitar, mandolin, piano, accordian, harmonicas, and harps. More than $3,000 in prizes will be awarded this yr. Also, craftman from a four state region are vending their wares including fiddles, leatherwork, ceramics and jewelry.

I have never been to this phoaks, so don't know what to expect but it sounds like fun. Any of you in Denver going to make it up? My house is only an hour away, its a straight shot on the Interstate! It's on the way to Dounglas from all points north and west. If you're coming from south or east, I am an hour away.

Let me know, okay and I will watch for you. Don't know which day we will go over yet, so I will watch this thread to decide. Sorry it's so late.
