ROOTS!

SUNDAY 22ND FEBRUARY – 3PM
NORMAL PRICE - £12
SPECIAL FOLK CLUB PRICE - £6
Harlow Playhouse is one of just a handful of venues in the country to host a series of classical concerts by the internationally renowned company Music in the Round. Over the course of the next few months the Playhouse will welcome some fantastic musicians.

Four leading classical and folk musicians – Alistair Anderson on the English concertina and Nortumbrian pipes, Peter Cropper on the violin, Donald Grant on the fiddle and Catriona McKay on the clarsach – come together especially for the very special folk concert Roots!

They bring their knowledge, experience and love of folk music together for an exciting afternoon exploring the common roots of the classical and folk traditions. The programme ranges from Bach, Bartók and Ysaÿe to new and traditional music from the Highlands and Islands.

Donald is a classical performer with the Elias String Quartet and a Scottish folk-fiddler and composer. He plays regularly with Catriona, one of today's leading Scottish harpers. Alistair runs Folkworks at The Sage Gateshead and has written folk-based works for Peter in his previous role as leader of The Lindsays.

Prior to the concert at 2pm will be a FREE talk called Beginnings, in which Peter Cropper, Artistic Director of Music in the Round, and Alistair Anderson will explore the beginnings of classical and folk music looking at how the different genres are linked.
