I DON’T WANT TO PLAY BARRE CHORDS

Words & Music Graham & Bernadette Dixon (Trouble at’ Mill)

I like to play an 'Open G'
Interspersed with an Open C
Back to G
And then to open D
I like to hear my strings a ringing
To compliment the song I'm singing
Open Chords are (always) good enough for me

I don't want to play Bar chords
They make fingers bleed
I don't want to go up that neck
Three frets are all I need
With a capo and a plastic pick
I'll get by with my three chord trick
I'm not trying to play Bar chords any more

I'll pull off
Then I'll hammer on
It puts more feeling in the song
And makes it sound like there's a lot more going on
Mess around on the bottom string
Makes the tune go with a swing
Before you go back to that basic strum

My arrangements leave me no regrets
Just excessive wear on my first three frets
And a stance that looks by no means rock and roll
I may not play those exciting leads
But three chords gives me everything I need
To sing my songs in a style all of my own

I don't want to play bar chords any more

I don't need to sound like Status Quo

Bar chords only make my fingers sore

The song can be heard here I Don't Want To Play Barre Chords
