Subject: Origins: Amos the Leper From: GUEST,TheSongSeeker Date: 25 Mar 25 - 05:19 AM A little curio for you all... In the 1984 Irish national school curriculum, a ditty was introduced for the kids to sing, about a man who got leprosy and was then cast out of his community, and then the song ends. There's no love or compassion in the song. It doesn't teach us to love our neighbours or anything. Amos just contracted leprosy, got ran out and that was that. It's like this weird, unfinished parable. There is a version on Youtube. I don't know if this is the original melody, though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0zbNsarn1M Was just wondering if anyone knows anything of the origin of the song if it's not the case that it was created for the 1984 Irish curriculum. |
