Trying to find more info about a song I half-remember from a music hall piano book.

These are the lyrics I can remember, with about 70% accuracy.

An egg within a grocery, lay dreaming of the hour
Each day it gained activity and detonating power
With bisulphide(?) of hydrogen, its heart was all a-glow
And when the grocer(?) picked it up, it whispered(?) soft and low

Not yet but soon, not yet but soon
Nobody's cracked me yet, but there's going to be a ruckus(?) when they do, you bet


There are more verses about how the egg is looking forward to exploding. Please someone tell me this isn't all a weird dream.
