"The tenor saxophonist Frank Lowe, who has died aged 60 from complications of lung cancer, was an outstanding figure in a line of noble practitioners stretching back to Coleman Hawkins. He came to artistic maturity in the wake of the musical revolution that developed in the 1960s, and took on board the lessons of that era as they impinged on African Americans."
