Subject: Burns Supper at Sweet Fanny Adams From: Rex Date: 11 Mar 04 - 12:23 PM Our Pene Azul did a fine job of putting some pages together for Sweet Fanny Adams Irish Pub. If you look in the events section of tbe photos, you find a couple of pages for the pub in general and a page for the Burns Supper that was held there in January. Here's a blurb I sent in to two of our local newspapers that describes it pretty well. ---------------------------------------------------------- A touch of Scotland was brought to our mountains on Sunday, January 25th as there were gathered lovers of Scotland's own beloved bard. Sweet Fanny Adams was filled to the rafters with those who had come to celebrate the 245th birthday of Robert Burns. The kilt and tartan clad guests were treated to a traditional Burns supper with roast beef, clapshot and crudite. But all had come for the piping in of the haggis by the Isle of Mull pipers and Scot Hughes of the Emerald Society pipers. As haggis takes on the character of the region where it is served, so it was for the haggis that had been prepared by Karen Smart the night before. And there was no dearth of it. In addition to lamb and beef, there was also buffalo added to the recipe. This was perhaps a nod to famed restauranteur Sam Arnold who was among the guests and led the diners with his toast to the Mountain Man. The address to the haggis was conducted by Master of Ceremonies, Donald Stewart. Mr. Stewart also raised a toast to Robert Burns and to the immortality of his work. Champagne and cider were offered for the toasts as well as the traditional Athol Brose and fine Scotches and ales. Scottish fiddler Loretta Thompson treated the diners to the songs of Burns accompanied by Brad Craig. The evening wound down with the tunes of the fiddle and the pipes along with Loretta Thompson's fine step dancing. Muckle guid fun was had by all. Rex |
