Subject: Lyr Add: Long Gone-2 From: Charley Noble Date: 23 Oct 04 - 10:32 AM I posted this song in one of the threads back in 2001 but maybe it deserves its own thread. It's a bluegrass style song I learned from a shipmate while sailing in the Bahamas back in 1965. It's entirely different than the "Long Gone" in the DT or any other "Long Gone" song I've found discussed in the threads. I added the last verse: LONG GONE (Anon from singing of Jennifer Puleston, Brookhaven, NY, in 1965) I remember well the day I met you With your smile so starry bright, And I loved you from that moment 'Til I met you here tonight. Chorus: Long gone, that's how I'm leavin', Long gone, why do you cry? This is what you've always wanted, Yes, I'm gone, long gone! I've tried my best to make you happy, Still you say I've done you wrong; So I'm giving up, my darlin', And I'm gone, long gone. (CHO) Do not try to overtake me, What I ride will be too fast; All my bags are packed for travel, Long gone, long gone at last.(CHO) When I see you try to spite me, When I see you turn away, All the grief that I've been feelin' Tells to me there's no other way.(CHO) It would of been better for us, my darlin', If in this world we'd never met; For though I loved you like no other, Now I'm gone, I've just regret. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
