Subject: Pittsburgh Folk Festival From: LadyJean Date: 26 May 05 - 11:53 PM The Pittsburgh Folk Festival is this weekend, at the David L. Lawrence Convention center on Liberty Avenue, Downtown. (So there's parking.) The festival is a collection of performances by a few of Pittsburgh's many ethnic groups. No guest performers this year. (Arlo Guthrie has played the festival in the past.) The Schedule is: FRIDAY 4-10 Croatian, German, Hawaiian, Latin American, and Persian. SATURDAY Noon-10 Bulgarian, Chinese, Greek, Indian, Lebanese, Lithuanian, Phillipines, and Ukrainians. SUNDAY Noon-6 Carpatho Russyn, Scandinavian, Scots, Slovaks. We've got lots more ethnic groups. But they aren't performing. There are lots of ethnic food booths, people selling nic nacs, craft demonstrations, and other entertainments. A Ukrainian choir is an incredible experience. I don't remember the name of the Greek dance that owes it's origins to the Pittsburgh folk festival. But it's now very common among Greek communities everywhere, including Greece. So, if you're in the area, stop in. |
