Just in time for the 100th Commemoration of the 1906 Great Earthquake and Fire, the first-ever retrospective exhibition for San Francisco Maritime NHP artist William A. Coulter, premier chronicler of the San Francisco waterfront, will open to the public in the maritime visitor center on Tuesday – April 12, 2006.

William A. Coulter's significance lies not only in the beauty of his paintings of shipping on San Francisco Bay in the 19th Century, but in his historical depictions of the halcyon days of our maritime industry and its major role in building trade and commerce on the West Coast.

One of the subjects of this remarkable exhibit will be the renowned ten-foot long painting entitled "San Francisco Fire, 1906." Without a doubt, this unparalleled exhibition will feature the finest examples of Coulter's works in conjunction with other paintings and works from around the bay area.

We are seeking volunteers interested in becoming Gallery Ambassadors for this extraordinary exhibit. Gallery Ambassadors interact with visitors to the exhibit; they answer questions, give directions as well as provide a safety presence.

Time Commitment: Six Hours per/ month at two-shifts per/ month. Each shift is approximately three hours in length.

Training: A mandatory and ongoing informative 4-hour orientation is required for all volunteers for this exhibit.

Shift Schedule: As a Gallery Ambassador you will have the opportunity of selecting your desired day(s) and shifts that you wish to assist with.
