I recently learnt of the death of Pete Edwards on Sunday 23rd. July, former organiser of the Fleet Folk Club, held at the Fox and Hounds at Church Crookham in Hampshire. I recall him as a fine singer and guitarist - mainly solo, but often working in partnership with Ginny Dowden and the four-part group Dogfludd. He held a doctorate in metallurgy, and his full-time job was at the former Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough. He often played genial host after club sessions with a regular following that included among others: Ian Anderson, Maggie Holland, Rebecca Over, Nigel Thornbory, Keith Calton, and Robb Johnson. He leaves a widow Pam and two children (now in adulthood). He suffered a stroke back in the early 1990s. However, he continued to have an active brain, and he and Pam were very much part of the village scene at their new abode near East Dereham in Norfolk. Fleet regular Phil Harris adds "Pete went into hospital last Saturday and died on Sunday without knowing that he was riddled with, amongst other things, cancer of the liver."
